Hi my names Roy i developed psycosis about a year ago now and have been gettin treatment for it ever since. I seem to have developed something which my doctors are calling derealisation but im not sure if it is. I was hoping if other people who have suffered derealisation could tell me what its like.

I found that in the beginning these visual changes that were happening to me made my vision look like i was on some kind of drug. At 1st it was like the look of things when on ecstacy now its changed a fair bit n just looked like im drunk or on some kind of drug.

I have read up about derealisation and it dosnt state this in any of the descriptions which makes me think maybe its not derealisation. My doctors want to treat it as a anxiety disorder but i just want to make sure theyre on the right track.

Any help would be most appreciated.

Roy:

I'm not a professional but have read several books and essays on this subject along with forms of dissociation.

This is my humble opinion: Everyone at some point or another suffers from derealization and at times dissociation. This is very common. Like when you're driving down the road and you're watching the road but your mind is elsewhere and you go several miles and think "How did I get here. I don't remember going around that curve", things of that nature. It can be inattention too, I guess, but that's just my opinion on it.

Actually, I will tell you. I posted on another thread to you that better explains, but I think maybe your docs are on the right track. I have what I refer to as "tunnel vision" and just a feeling of disconnection from my body. My vision is affected badly and sometimes the world even spins and I am being treated for anxiety and panic disorders. So...sometimes what we consider the least likely candidate is really the culprit all along.

Maybe if you try meds for anxiety then it will help. This is all a trial and error process anyway, to find out what works and what doesn't. Perhaps a medication change is what's in order.

I wish you the best of luck,
Kimberly.

The world spinning thing, that happens to me too, a few times it's been like if something bad suddenly happens I feel like I got kicked in the gut and everything will get very bright and glittery and spinny and blurry all at once, and noises get louder or sometimes they get softer like I'm down a deep well and things are fading. I call it "being drop-kicked into the twilight zone" because it's like all of a sudden it all makes sense in some really horrifying way that it is NOT supposed to.

Excellent point, Sundance.

It could very well be depersonalization, I feel dumb for not thinking of it Derealisation?

Hope you're doing well,
Kimberly.

Roy. I was recently diagnosed with Panic disorder and Depression and I was having the same sort of visual changes you described. I did some research and found that this type of visual change is quite common for people with anxiety disorders. It's called Derealisation and Depersonalisation. Hang in there.

Roy, I have had anxiety disorder for a long time. It is very common to have your vision effected. I do not know what it is called but the meds. will likely help with this. I guess if you are worried about your eye sight you could have them checked, if you have not recently.
It never hurts to be carefull.

Take care.
