Hey i have agoraphobia and panic disorder. but sometimes when i am feeling fine and just doing normal things like laundry or walking down the road, my heart will suddenly pick up extremely fast as if i was just on a tread mill or something. I always have to sit on the ground or whereever i am and not talk to the person im with, just sit and concentrate on my breathing to slow down my heart. yesterday however, something happened that i never experianced before and im wondering if any of u have experianced this?

I was dealing with student loans and my heart picked up. Because i was in public i found it harder to concentrate on my breathing. usually it slow down after 5 mins.this time it kept on going and faster! my bf called 911.I told the paramedica my issue but they were shocked by how high my heart rate was that they checked me for other stuff. they couldnt believe it was from anxiety. But they found nothing. and as soon as i was hooked up to IV my heart rate wen down. It was a scary day, i thought my heart was never gonna slow. so now im worse because im afriad this will happen again out of nowhere, since yesterday it was also out of nowhere, i wasnt feeling anxious. anyone have any ideas what causes the heart to do this at random? or any one have any experiance with this? please, id love feedback for this one. Ive had tests done before xmas on this issue to and everything came back fine.maybe it is anxiety and i should starting taking meds

surprisingly dehydration--even though you don't think you are dehydrated--can cause this. I have what's called Idiopathic Sinus Tachycardia. My heart rate goes sky high for no reason. I've had EP's, blood tests, holters, stress test, echo, you name and I've had it. The idiopathic means they don't know why. I get very lightheaded and it's like there's a rushing sound in my ears. sitting down does help, so does drinking a lot of cold water or running my wrists under cold water. The only reason I can figure that helps is the shock of the cold jars me. I've also laid my wrists on the cold window when I'm driving. I've been tried on beta blockers, which slow the heart down, but because it's not constant, it slows everything down too much and my bp goes too low. Take comfort in the fact that they did not see any fibrillation or anything else to concern them. It's a pain in rear that I've been living with for almost 30 years. Oh, for me, caffeene in any form makes it worse.

You are welcome! It took years of testing and misdiagnosis and medication and frustration before they finally said, "you're on your own. You're not dying." I know how scarey it can be! I wish you well.

My heart would do the same thing during a panic attack out of the blue. Sometimes, it would come in cycles like 3 or 4 times in a day and I have woke up from sleep like that as well too. Try to avoid caffeine and cold medicine and make sure you are hydrated. Also, if you bear down, your heart will slow down. What I mean by that is, when your heart starts to race like that, squat and bear down like you have to go to the bathroom. It's called the valsalva maneuver and it works. Look it up on the internet. It will slow your heart down. Take peace in knowing that nothing is medically wrong with you, it is just your fight and flight response for whatever reason kicking into high gear. I have been to the ER many times because of it and they finally put me on klonopin. I took that a couple of years and never had the problem again. But anxiety has been knocking at my door since the holidays so I am back on medicine again. If you think you need medicine, then by all means go to your doctor. There is no reason to suffer.

I say it could be a tachacardia or even a-fib. As much as anxiety/panic can cause the same thing, it may or may not be that. Ive been there, I had both a-fib and anxiety, and sometimes it was hard to tell the diff. The docs may not always see your heart mis-behaving.
