Hello all,
let me explain my situation. im 25, married withe 3 chilldren and one on the way. i have always had struggles with focusing but have always written it off as having to much to do or not enough time. i am a youth pastor at a church and also have a part time job at a school. ihave always had an ecuse for being forgetfull or not gettin things done on time ( like i work to jobs and if only i had a little more time) well last summer was a perfect oppertunity for me to prove that if i had time i could get everthing done, because my job at school ended and i would have so much time to do everthing. what a dissapointment noting changed i got a little more done but notting significant. so i am thinking i may have the add, i scored an 85 on this site test. here are some of the things i do tell me if anyone else has experianced simmiler stuff if so what meds are the best and and do they realy work. i am open to all comments. whenever i right a paper or sermon i fell like i have to get up and walk around while i think i also will constantly go to the bathroom or to the main office and check the mail. i am constantly dreaming which is not all bad because i come up with great but the problem is i never follow up on any of the ideas ,the only way it gets done is if the team i have is deligated to do it. i definatle cant pay attention during metting one word or mental picture will take me bake to a memory and my mind wonders for several minits at a time and this metting ia a meting of 3 people. and then of coure there are the usual thing of forgetting everthin from keys in the door to taking out the trash that i promised to take out 5 minitis earlier. oh ya the simplest things kill me like making a room list for 50 students that can take 5 hours . there are other things ask if ya want but please give me your opinion.

One of the most important things if finding somebody who actually understand Adult ADD. MDs, Psychologists and in some states social workers can diagnose ADD.

A couple of places to begin to look for help are www.add.org and www.addconsults.com

Another great way to find a professional who understands Adult ADD is by word of mouth. You could try to find a local ADD Support group and ask for reccomendations. A a great place to hook up with local people who have adult ADD is through http://adultadd.meetup.com

While I can't diagnose people over the internet your symptoms seem consistent with ADHD. They also sound specific enough that you should definitely get it checked out. Make sure whoever you see is experienced with ADHD. It's not hard to diagnose it if you see it all the time (heck even my ADHD patients have seen it in other people and referred them to me for treatment). Go to www.addresources.org (not .com, but .org) and print Dr. Amen's symptom list. While I think he's full of it that he can diagnosis ADHD with a brainscan into 4 different types, he does have an excellent checklist. Print two copies. You fill out one and your wife fills out one (about you, not her). You both should use as many specific examples as possible (write on the back if you have to). Then take both papers to your clinician (and make sure your wife accompanies you). This will make the process as effective as possible. Better to go to a psychiatrist if possible for the meds, other docs are not as familiar with the treatment. You may well need psychotherapy to help you too, find a therapist that is familiar with ADHD too. Most of the national ADHD associations have listings of ADHD specialists state by state (including addresources.org). Also buy the book "Driven to Distraction" (not Delivered from Distraction). If it reads like a biography of you - welcome home brother!
