I'm not sure if I have ADD or ADHD or not, I need someone to help me please. First of all I would like to mention that I'm 40 years of age and I have a son who is 12 that was diagnosed as having ADD. I fought it for years with the schools and realized they where right, I didn't believe it at first because he gets good grades, but always gets into trouble. Anyway the reason why I think I might have it is because I always get fired from pretty much every job. It's not because I'm late or anything it's usually because they say "You lack the experience we are looking for" and making mistakes. the wierd thing is that I too used to get good grades in school and even took some college classes and made good grades. But once I got into the field of choice I would get fired.
I do remember when I was in my 20's I used to get these really bad and serious panic attacks, they were scarey, but they went away. When I was 13 I came down with diabetes and started doing drugs with my mother until 20 something, then she moved away and I started in my own journeys.
How do i really know if I have ADD or ADHD ? Maybe this is my problem that I've had all these years. Someone please help me figure out what's wrong with me so I can get my life in order. Thank you, James

Hello James, and welcome to PC. I've often pondered whether ADHD was hereditery or not, guess I need to do some research. My mother and I have a very similar situation, as I recently divulged to her that I have ADHD. She was in shock, mainly because everyone that sees us together says that we are so similar. We both had troubles in school, but skated through with good grades. We both have been fired from jobs we worked rather hard to get due to simple mistakes and issues with determination during repeditive tasks. The panic attacks were a huge sign for me to get tested, but I never did until recently.

My suggestion is to get tested, either you have it or you don't. Problems can seem so much easier once you know what you're dealing with and get the proper help .

Best of luck,
Ice

Yes, ADHD is known to be one of the most hereditary psychological conditions. As for me, my brother has it also and it seems my dad does too, although my dad has never sought a formal diagnosis. I suspect that a number of my cousins do, too...
