Let's build up a bit of an ADHD community here. I personally am new to the website and forum and I invite anyone else who is either new or has yet to really speak up about their struggle with ADHD to go ahead and introduce themselves in this thread and share how ADHD has impacted their lives.

I would love to as I have just realized I may have a significant prob in this area. I dont have anything to contribute other than my personal 'life' experience as I am awaiting a doc visit due next week.

I would love to chat abt it.

I was just diagnosed this past August after my oldest daughter was. This is after 24 years of being told "no, you do not have ADD/ADHD."

I think part of the problem is it is still relatively new for adults to be diagnosed. According to my Pdoc, it wasn't until the mid to late 90s the medical community realized that adults, not just kids had issues with ADHD. So you can imagine, it has only really been in the last decade or so they started treating adults. So the idea of Adults with ADHD is still kinda new...

My ADHD has always affected my life, I just never knew what it was until I was an adult. It wasn't until I went to therapy to deal with my personal life that had finally spun out of control that it was identified and I sought an official dx and medication. Now that I've been on medication, I've gotten my other issues under control and am doing a lot better overall. Eventually my goal is to taper off the meds and life a balanced med free life.

Your post spoke volumes to me. I'm in the process of getting tested for ADHD, so I can't say with certainty that this is what I'm dealing with, but I found your post to be inspiring. A few close friends/family who I have told about my plans to seek testing for ADHD. Have asked me what I hope to get from that dx. And what you said is exactly what I want to get. I want to get myself under control. Even if that means using medication, but I also don't want to be on meds forever.

Thank you soo much for sharing!

attentionThis is an old thread. You probably should not post your reply to it, as the original poster is unlikely to see it.
