That's a good question. It depends on the test, of course. The Wechsler tests (WISC for kids and WAIS for adults) are fairly reliable and valid. They were tested on large numbers of samples representing as close as possible to the population.
But the test score also reflects the skill of the administrator and other factors related to both people involved. That's why these tests also give you a range of scores your actual score falls into. This is called the confidence interval. It shows you how much error is in the testing, so that rather than one single score, you might actual have a score somewhere within, say 5 points give or take. This interval varies by age and score, as the error varies somewhat. But it's more accurate to look at the confidence interval, and the category, such as Average or High Average, rather than the individual score. And of course we don't really know what intelligence really is. So it also reflects your performance on THAT test. It may vary on tests of emotional intelligence, practical intelligence, etc. Hope this helps. gg

AS a part of my prep for the aid for nursing school, I was giving the WAIS test. That was a very interesting experience. It does take a good administrator and luckily, I was very focused on it. pat

As Pat said, the test is given in person. It involves a lot of different subtests, some verbal, some performance based. There probably isn't much online about it, because it's protected material.
And online IQ tests are not as reliable or valid as those that have been researched and normed on a large population. It's also vital to admimister it in a standard manner, which can't really be controlled online. So I'm not surprised that online tests vary from the WAIS. And by the way, the WAIS is not the only reliable and valid IQ test. It's just the one I have been trained on. There is also the Stanford Binet, and others whose names are escaping me at the moment. gg

I had a full professional IQ test done years ago. According to the results, my vocabulary and general knowledge were in the 140-150 range and he was very impressed with my math skills. However, the psychologist never told me my overall IQ score or I don't recall it. I'm thinking it was around 125?
Oh and I had the Rorschasch test too. He believed I was very frightened of the world. No duh! |
