Hi, I dont believe I have ever posted in this forum so this is new for me.
My daughter Kimmy, age 13, was dx'd with ADHD at age 5. She was put on a variety of meds at that time, none of which helped her. I decided to keep her med free for many years until December of 03. I started her on Strattera at that time. She did very well. Her organization was still poor but she was bringing her grades up and that was our main concern. She stopped taking her Strattera this past summer. I took her to the DR and discussed discontinuing the medication for the summer months as my daughter wanted to try life with out her meds. I was against it but I wanted her to feel as though she had a say in the matter as well as her physician. Anway, we moved from VA to TX over the summer and she hasnt been taking any meds at all and she has been having tremendous difficulty this school year so far. I took her to the DR today and after a long evaluation and a review of her past medical history, we (myself, kimmy and the new dr) decided to put has back on ADHD meds. This time, we decided on Ritilin. I do not know much about this medication other then it is used for this. My daughter is excited about taking meds again for her ADHD. She actually said she was happy about it. I am happy that she is happy. I really hope that this helps her. Has anyone had any experiences with Ritilin? If so, I would be interested in hearing your story. Thank you |

I know that Ritalin works for some people. Sometimes it also causes psychotic-like behaviours. Keep an eye open for that. I had several students on it and it was a scary sight to see them both. Why not continue with the med that was working really well for her, if you're insisting on using the meds?

Thank you INaBOX!!!
It is sad to say but we do not have health insurance. The Strattera she was on is nearly 150.00 for a one month supply. The Ritilin, is less then 1.00 a day. So it is affordable. It seems to be working however we are only in the first week. Thank you for your reply and feedback. Huggles, Jen |

Interesting how the drug that was working well costs more money than the one that's known to cause serious side-effects. Best of luck anyhow.
