Hi everyone. This is the first time I have been on a medicine. I recently was prescribed vyvanse for adhd. (It is a stimulant made by the same company that makes Adderall I believe)
The first day, I felt "on top of the world," -- almost high. ![]() The next two days, I did not feel that. But I have better focus, feel calmer, MUCH more awake and not feeling sluggish, getting better sleep, etc. This may be a dumb question.... BUT.... 1) Am I supposed to get that "top of the world feeling" as part of the "stimulant" action or am I supposed to be medicated for the other things I am noticing. 2) Also, you know how some medicines take awhile to "build-up" for full effect (like an anti-depressant), is that true with stimulants? Thanks everyone! |

Euphoric side effect, common when you start to take a stimulant. Should only last a couple of days if you happen to experience this side effect. Some people mistake this as what they are suppose to feel like the entire time on this medication.
People react to stimulants differently, and even though the effects are immediate, it can take your body a certain amount of time to adjust to the consistent intake of stimulants to really know how you will react to it. |

I take a stimulant, Dexedrine, and it greatly helps with my ADD symptoms. The first few times I took it, it made me feel a little high but now it just works on my ADD symptoms. And it works right away without a buildup period. Which also means I can't miss a dose of it.

Thanks for the responses. My "high as a kite feeling" disappeared, but I feel much sharper and controlled now. It is really amazing how much better I feel.
Does anyone know if these types of medications stop working over time? Thanks! |

I've been taking Vyvanse a couple of years and it still works for me.
