I definitely feel like I annoy people. I feel like people look at me like I'm childish when I like to have fun.

When I was little a few people said I was annoying and I think it may have just stuck with me. Every now and then my parents say things that are really similar.

It keeps me on my toes when I'm in a lot of social situations, because I really don't want to be a bother or get on anyone's bad side.

Does anyone else out there have similar experiences?

(((BatsAndButterflies))) - I'm sorry you feel this way sometimes and made to feel like this as a child. At least you're not boring. You seem nice to me and I know you have a sense of humor. I can see how this could make you hold yourself back. I like your username.

I ran into the office at home the other day with a bra wrapped around my head yelling "I'm a FOOTBALLER!"
My boyfriend said he was irritated with me and doesn't know what to do with me.
I'm so lonely.
I can't make myself stop being weird.
I have always said I was spastic, but truth is, there's always ADD.
I cannot treat it properly because of mania though.
Bad news.

I understand how that goes. It can be complicated. I think we just have to find people who appreciate our spontaneous and awkward sense of humor

I can relate too, I feel like I am annoying and I can be childish most times but is that a bad thing? Sometimes I think that I should act my age but I just can't

Bother away. Imo it adds spice to life, and who cares if people see you as childish! When you are 80 and still acting like your 50, then they will all be jealous

Don't ever be who your not for fear of what others think!

I used to have friends who were quite playful and we were always messing around doing weird (but harmless) crap. I so miss that. I'm the only playful person now. One moved and decided to grow up (closing in on 40) and the other who is a little older got a serious GF that makes her serious too... She can sometimes be a little silly. But when GF is with us, you have to be an adult! And I hate that!

I can be really tired, or sick or down or whatnot, so I have serious days, but now I have to be serious all the time, and I HATE it. I truly feel something is taken from me and I can literally feel my face wrinkling and my hair greying, because if it is true what they hint I'm not young, I must be old. And I'm getting insecure about being silly because of that.

I hate all the social rules how you are supposed to be. And when we were as most childish, yea SOME people glared, but most people actually liked looking at us and some were even inspired talking to us (which is a nono with strangers in my country).

BLEH.

You shouldn't feel like you can't be silly. Everyone deserves to be silly. Age is stupid.

I completely understand! I've been giving advice to people three times my age on here before and people that were in the same chat room were like... "sometimes you sound a lot older than you are..." I guess I just can't be my age!

I know I can be annoying because I like to be silly at times. Some people really enjoy my humor and some folks are turned off. So, you're not the only one who feels that way. I think you seem like a decent person, too. As long as we are aware of how we come across and can adjust when need be (i.e, we're not manic), then I think we should be ourselves! Just not make fun of truly serious matters!
Thanks for this!

I have to confess that I have been guilty of telling my own daughter that she is annoying. I absolutely do not want her to believe that statement and have explained to her that it has more to do with me, and there is nothing wrong with her at all. We have personalities that are very different. I had a childhood where it was very important to my safety to be quiet and become as invisible and possible. My youngest daughter is a firecracker. Her personality is outgoing, creative, full of physical energy and she is very smart. I would not want her to change a single thing about herself, and I envy her outgoing spirit. The times that I have called her annoying are the times when I am in a down cycle and get completely overwhelmed with trying to respond to her exuberance. When I am overwhelmed, I don't care to speak to anyone and have alot of difficulty interacting. As a mom, I know that shutting down is not helpful for either of us. I occasionally take her to therapy with me so we can talk about things and the therapist and I can help her understand what is wrong with me. (BPII, ADD, chronic fatigue, migraines--a list of bleh!) As a child, my teachers always reported to my parents how "quiet" I was, and my daughter's teachers always tell me she is very "social" and "talks alot".
My point is, be who you are and don't let anyone else's labels define you. I don't want my daughter to hide her energy and joy of living because of my issues. If you were my daughter, I wouldn't want that for you either.

Thank you very much. Your perspective means a lot to me. My mother has called me a pest before and said I was pestering her, but I know she doesn't mean anything by it. Hearing your side of things sounds a lot like something my mom would say. Thank you.

I always tried to fly under the radar in most social situations, fearing people making fun of me and annoying them... I cannot tell you how many times I've missed the social cues from people. I just never saw them for 43 years. Now post Adderall, I see facial expressions and body language better, but It's a new language to me and I've got a lot of catching up to do Work in Progress

Yep, I'm probably way older than any of you, and sometimes can't help but let the silly in me outs herself.....

Yes I've been told to grow up, so what!
