Medicine: Adderall. Situation: BF has suffered on a regular basis over a span of years with depression and anxiety. Psych sees ADD in the mix of his symptoms. This is new to the understanding of what is going on. Psych is the first mental health professional that BF has seen. Prior treatment had been by a GP, solely for the depression/anxiety. He had success in the past with Zoloft. On more recent try, not successful. Then Celexa was tried. Again, not doing the trick. While on Celexa, Adderall was added. Adderall has been helpful on the focus front, but the depression and anxiety remain (not hugely surprising). Because it wasn't working, the Celexa was discontinued. Currently, it's Adderall only.

The curious situation: BF finds the Adderall helpful for the focus. On an irregular (can't find pattern) basis, he has pretty bad side effects. So, side effects, some days yes, some days, no. Is this familiar to anyone, and if so, any thoughts/advice? (He's been on it for 3 weeks.)

Also: If also experiencing depression and anxiety (in addition to their ADD), did anyone find their ADD med useful in helping these? Or did you find it necessary to have an add-on med to treat the depression/anxiety as a separate entity?

We are going to be working with psych in trying to find what (probably combo) works to get all his symptoms under control, but in the meanwhile, he is curious to know if others have had similar situation. Experience? Feedback?

(Cross-posted to Psychiatric Medications forum as well.)

well first thing i think of is that his body might not be breaking it down like it should. does he have any gi tract or liver problems?
also is he on the extended release? or the plain and simple adderal? i was on vyvanse and it took away both the depression and anxiety and made a good dent into my add/adhd.
symptoms could also be a sign of withdrawaling off of the med if hes anything like me.
