Sort of a misleading title, but I'm not quite sure what else to call it.
![]() I read somewhere that if a psychologist uses outdated terminology (such as ADD) instead of new, DSM-V approved terminology (such as ADHD-PI) that means they are behind on research and should not be considered. Of course, I don't get this impression from her, but I'm completely clueless about this sort of therapy thing and I don't understand half the jargon thrown around here. :P So, in your experience, do psychologists who use the term "ADD" seem less experienced or less informed than psychologists who use "ADHD-PI"? I honestly feel like it's just nitpicking, and she said "ADD" because it's less of a mouthful (and a more commonly known term than ADHD-PI). |

I think it varies by doctor. Old habits die hard, you know? I have never heard a doctor use ADHD-PI even though that terminology has been out there for 16 years.
I just say ADD because there's no H in my case (unless I'm manic) and the PI part is probably accurate/implicit because there's no hyperactivity.

Predominantly Inattentive. I'm just getting started in the process of being diagnosed with something, and ADHD was on the table. Like I said, I'm unfamiliar with lingo, so it helps to have you guys around to sort things out for me.

It annoys me that medical terms for the same conditions keep changing for no apparent gain (not just psych terms). I was just fine with IDDM and NIDDM before we had to change to DM Type 1 and DM Type 2. And my knee had chondromalacia but now I have to say I have patella femoral syndrome.
If there is new information then sure, fine, rename it but stop with renaming the same stuff already! ![]()

So is the other one ADHD-PH?
What if you are both inattentive and hyperactive? |

I believe that would be the "combined" type, from what I've heard.

Yes, I think if you're both inattentive and hyperactive they call it ADHD-C, or something. C for combined.

Figures I would have the combined type. I have like every comorbid condition in the DSM-V! |
