it's sure seems such a poor way to describe us...
it's a damn poor choice of word for such an amazing condition. DEFICIT?? yeah it was chosen because of some 'obvious' screw ups to lives we live but hey everybody screws up! I was pulled out of classes at school...years ago, I'm ancient now, about nine hundred and eighteen and eleventy seven months old. things like mathematics, history and that...exactifying edgamacations like that! (we only had a few subjects nearly 10 centuries ago) ...I was put into these other 'special' classes with other dudes that I thought at the time were just trippers! we were taught to expand our minds with lateral thinking and the classes were really fun and made everything else look even more boring than it was if that was possible? we had "alternative" thinking gifts is what this teacher dude told us....HOW BRILLIANT! I doubt maybe he knew exactly how brilliant?...but nonetheless brilliant!.....and that instead of saying "this is this", it was like "this is...(well) not that!" our minds were set up on auto to think in alternatives and no-one ever said it would drive me utterly nuts!...oh well ...if I trust myself here it doesn't drive me nuts but sideways beautiful! alternative thinking yep ![]() |

I strongly dislike the word 'deficit' and 'disorder'. For bipolar too, why do these things have to be called disorders? It is just people who think differently, learn differently, feel more intensely, experience more deeply. Why not just call it attention processing differencial? Sometimes we hyper-focus, that is not a deficit. We are known to be intelligent, with brains that hold a lot more info than the average.
The problem lies with our society, that we don't fit the specific mold that teachers expect. Most teachers dont understand the add kids because these teachers made it through the dysfunctional educational system just fine. I've had to fight hard for my kids' rights to be treated well at school and to try to get them an education. It's a messed up system. Ok, done ranting, good night Monkey ![]() |

Monkey, was also pulled of of some classes, just to pass me along really.
In my day they were called remedial classes, math, science, probably at least one more... None of the teachers really cared tho. Other shining moments of my school years. ![]() Oh well, I survived. ![]() |

I'm glad you survived too KC
![]() Kind of all we can do, schools aren't designed to teach to kids with adhd - at least here in the States. I think they are learning more about how to teach adhd kids. But not impressed with the "education" they gave my 16 & 18 yr olds. Both have adhd and BP, and for years teachers called me in for meetings and I wound up feeling horrible about myself as a parent, like everything was messed up and my fault. But it didn't have to be like that, there were other families who donated more money to the school who had their children in the special ed program, getting a better education for their children with adhd because they knew their rights I suppose. So that's what we do, we survive. My kids are wild and crazy, sometimes depressed, but so cool, so unique and I wouldn't want them any other way. Hopefully they'll get jobs someday! ![]() |
