So I had been posting here at psychcentral as I had been diagnosed with severe GAD, paranoia and numerous phobias. I was suspecting BPD. No SSRI's would work (bad reactions), and buspar would works for the depression and a BIT on the anxiety but made me more paranoid. I had been on Depakote before and it made me a zombie. At my last visit with my pdoc I told her that since I had quit all other meds, my xanax consumption had gone up. (used to be that a prescription for 1 month would last me about 6- and now it would only last me about 2 months....) I was kinda at my witts end with this, so I said "When I take half of my xanax (I never take a whole pill....) my brain just shuts up! It lets me think and pay attention to ONE thing at a time! I can actually have a coherent thought without interrupting myself 5000 times. It feels like usually there are 4 things going through my head at once and at least one is nerve wrecking!" I looked at her and it was kinda like a light bulb went off. She said "Have you ever thought about ADHD?" and I said "Yes, I was diagnosed with it in college, but I just thought the doc was a crock as he also diagnosed me as Bipolar (which this doc says im absolutely NOT) at the same time." She put me on ADHD medication and my life is just SO much better!!! I can think! I can think before I say things, and before I get mad I can look at the situation and see what emotion is NEEDED. It is so amazing!

I had been diagnosed with OCD, Generalized Anxiety, Social Anxiety, Depression, Panic Disorder, PTSD (which I think I did have prior) and was very paranoid. Turns out it was Combined ADHD. Since beginning my new medication, my anxiety is SOOOO much lower. For me it is basically non existent- which I never thought I would say. I still have 2 of my phobia's- but they are worlds better. I can think logically about them.

I wish people would understand that ADHD is so much more than being hyper. I always knew it was, but I never knew that it could do so* much to you and mimic other mental illnesses.

That is great! My GP first though I might be BP, so he refered me to my first psychologist and it took him about 10 minutes to suggest ADD (Non-Hyper). I finally had an explaination for 43 years of thinking I was morally weak, not that bright and showing no sigh of common sense.

You mention
Quote:
OCD, Generalized Anxiety, Social Anxiety, Depression, Panic Disorder, PTSD
These can all be comorbid symtoms with ADD. Other than PTSD, those all apply to me too.

I knew 30 minutes after my first Adderall that my life had just changed for the better.

Congratulations on finding the correct diagnosis
Thanks for this!

That's great! Yeah I couldn't understand why my anxiety wasn't getting better. Until I was diagnosed with ADHD combined type. I started medication and the anxiety went away so much! Not being able to think and focus was what was causing a lot of the anxiety. So great that u hav the right diagnosis

Yes and the odd part is I never had any idea at all that that is what the anxiety was from. I had NO idea!

Thank you! They can* be- but since starting my meds they have almost all went away. OCD is only present when I don't take the medicine for a day or so.

Vyvanse is doing well for me. Just be sure you start at a low dosage (30 or lower) bc my doc tried to start me at 50. Bad idea.
