Hi Lizarraga...
Welcome to PC. I originally came to pc looking for information about ADD. I was diagnosed at age 43 (4 years ago) and this has changed my life for the better. My oldest daughter (15) was diagnosed last year and the improvement in her overall happiness is astounding. Don't fear the diagnosis or the medications. The stimulants actually work the opposite of what you would think. In an ADDer the meds actually slow things down in our spinning minds. There are many helpful, friendly people here at PC. You can post here in the ADD/ADHD forums or if you like, feel free to send a PM to me. I hope you get some answers that make you feel a little better ![]() |

lizarrage709 Welcome to PC. I was diagnosed around a month ago. I came here looking for information on ADD before I went to see someone to find out. YYZADD was the one who helped me out and was my sounding board. He is really great and knows his stuff.
As YYZ has said. There is no need to fear the meds or the diagnosis. Let me tell you. Finding out at your sons age is actually going to be better for him, since hopefully he probably has not really had a long time to develop bad habits that can develop later on in life as you get older. Finding out now will help bring out who he is and what he likes and give him a headstart on what interests him and what he likes to do instead of doing things on a whim or may be interesting to him at the moment but not truly what he wants to do. Basically give him the chance to find where his true passions are at and who he is. Give him the chance to shine brighter then he ever has. ![]() I relatively new to the whole thing but feel to PM with some questions and I will answer as best I can if you like ![]() --MAUS5321 |

Welcome to the board lizarrage!
I'm pretty new myself, but I can promise that you've come to the right place. Everyone at PC has been really supportive since I began reaching out to others about my affliction with ADD. I was diagnosed really early in life, but didn't receive treatment until around 19 or so. Your sons diagnosis was found at the perfect time to instill good habits and coping mechanisms to help him live a more productive life. Im no doctor, but let me know if there's anything I can help with! Good luck ![]() |
