Are any of you older than 50 here and finding yourself not only distracted, but also sometimes just too tired to do anything about it? I have spent so many years of my life feeling like I just need to get a handle on this, and there is seriously no handle to "get". I've gotten so much feedback in the past on "how to organize", "how to clean" "how to look like I'm normal-(whatever that is)"
Is there anyone out there with ADHD who is truly accepting of themselves and ok with being different? I just so don't feel like I fit anywhere... |

I'm not over 50 but I understand the feeling. I'm accepting of myself but still embarrassed that I can't keep a 3 bedroom in which only 2 people live clean. I doubt that I'll ever be able to to keep a place clean.

You fit in here
![]() Seriously though, I know what you're describing. I've felt like the odd one out most of my life. I just don't get certain things when it comes to social norms and custom's, what others find acceptable behavior, ect. For the most part I've become comfortable with my quirkiness but there are those days... As for the "How to" advice, I think most of those books/articles fail to take into account that many ADDer's lack the motivation and/or the sticking-to-it power that is required to put that type of advice to good use. Motivation in people with ADHD works differently than it does in neurotypicals. Have you tried reading anything written specifically for people with ADHD? Arwen__78 has been reading some of these, perhaps she can offer a review of some titles? Oh, by the way, I'm 42 |

I am 52. Diagnosed with ADD about 5 years ago. There is no help for adults in the area where I live. I have tried to get tips from sites online. But I just cannot make the tips work. I live alone. I have a one bedroom apartment. It is messy. My kitchen table is always covered with papers (their all important you know). I have a table in my bedroom covered with clothes, books, a fan, pens, notes, etc. There is stuff laying on the sofa. Cant seem to get my counter cleared off.
I am so disorganized that it takes me at least three hours to get ready for work. That has got to be a record. I walk from one room to another to get something, and then forget why I went in there. This happens a lot. I finally reached a point where I grugingly accepted that this is the way I am. No one ever comes to see me, so I dont worry about it too much. ![]() |

Guys, try reading "You Mean I'm Not Lazy, Stupid or Crazy?!" by Kate Kelly and Peggy Ramundo.
seekersinking- I know the feeling. It seems like our life is a battle to the end. We know what we must do but somehow I can't put into action. I can if it's for work or outside of my little world at home.

![]() Had a stint at the P. Doc. a few years ago for depression; and, you guessed it - turns out to be also ADD ![]() That was at age 52... Been on an amazing journey of [self] discovery! and this site has really been a godsend - to actually 'meet' like-minded people all over the world - how similair we seem to think... Good Journeying... ![]() |
