Are you getting help for your ADHD? I think medication and coaching can really help with some of these problems, especially the ones related to concentration.
If that's not an option, have you tried tutoring? A lot of high schools and colleges offer tutoring programs, which can help a lot with understanding material. It's also nice to have small group or one-on-one time with someone looking at a topic. It makes it easier to focus than in a lecture setting. You should be able to get test accommodations, such as a longer period to take the test, or a separate room with fewer distractions. Ask your guidance counselor if you're in high school, or the disabilities office if you're in college about it. You're not stupid. You're struggling with something that isn't your fault. You're not stupid. It takes twice as much effort for you to certain things than other people. That's ok. You just need to learn how to work around it. You are capable of learning. You're not stupid. ![]()

Hello Fox,
I was a major underachiever in high school who can empathize with your feelings of inferiority. Self-confidence has always eluded me and everyone else seemed to be so much more driven and successful than I could ever hope to be. After being prescribed adderall for ADD, my life changed drastically, but major costs accompanied my ignorant decision to accept the treatment. Ten years later I cannot function without it and often wonder how my life would have turned out if I had never began. I suffer many of the issues you described to this day. Recently though, I've realized that the medication is little more than a motivation and energy booster; a tool to help me get the job done. I'm No smarter on the pill than off of it. I know this has already been long winded, but here is what I'm trying to say: we all have potential to be smarter than we currently are. How we compare to others is irrelevant. Focus on bettering yourself by seeking the next stage of enlightenment or the next step toward your goal. Nobody is inherently better than any other person and you have the power to mold yourself in any image of your choosing!!!!! Never let anyone tell you any different and strive to prove the naysayers wrong! Here is something to get you started toward your current goal of becoming smarter more efficiently, and this process works. I used it to earn a 3.75 GPA while pursuing my bachelors degree. Keep in mind that I graduated high school with less than a 2.5. Only you set your limits! http://feeds.lifehack.org/~r/LifeHac...g-process.html |

Fox,
I don't think you are stupid. I think you are brave for sharing your feelings and concerns. Aside from medication and therapy what else have you tried? Sometimes changes to diet and exercise can help. I know a lot of people get help from an ADHD coach and some others look to natural remedies. Keep in mind that what I've suggested is not going to completely wipe out your difficulties but they may help. |

I'm ADD and dyslexic so I understand where you're coming from.
It helps me if I make sing song ways to remember things. Or notecards It helps me read faster if I space my lines out so the letters don't get as scrambled. You could also try reading your school books like a novel, not like a textbook. If you treat it like a story rather than a lesson it's more fun to learn. I wish you the best of luck ![]() |
