Both of my younger brothers have been diagnosed with ADHD and they both play a lot of video games.

I do. I'm nearly 38 and my interest in video games hasn't grown any weaker. I try not to let it consume my life. But, I find it to be a great way to relax and not feel overwhelmed. I've especially grown fond of Minecraft. I used to meditate by visualizing hiking deep into the forest and building a place of my mine from materials around me. Then planting vegetables and such. Now, with Minecraft; I find that I get that same feeling and it helps me to relax and be creative at the same time.

Sometimes, I'll use video games as a reward for completing tasks that I find particularly daunting and overwhelming.

Anyhow, there's my two cents.

P.S: has anyone played The Last of Us?

Yes. I have ADD and when I play VG, offline ones, I want to complete the game in one sitting. Online ones (COD, Battlefield, MAdden, etc), it just keeps going on and on until I feel really really tired.
Thanks for this!

I used to. But the past couple years I haven't played much. I just can't find the motivation and focus to stick with a game for more than a few minutes without giving up on it. So I watch tv instead because that doesn't require much attention.

Not diagnosed, getting a neuropsych eval, but I played a boatload of videogames growing up. I seemed to have lost interest in recent years, but still dabble once in a while.

sometimes I get into an "ADD" state where I find it difficult to read a book, etc. Video games are ten times better to me when I'm in that state--I can notice fine details and frames that I couldn't notice before, etc.

My ADHD son plays extensive video games. It calms him completely and he has total attention span on them. So I don't interfere. As long as his homework and chores are done, I don't mind.

My son generally doesn't like them because he gets frustrated and starts all over again. That's how his ADHD presents for him.

i am worried my son, who plays video games and watches tons of tv, is add like me. i don't know what motivates him, but he can zone out or chill in front of the tv for hours at his mother's place. he also has trouble getting some of his schoolwork in on time and this is a recurrent behavior. i would like him treated and learning to cope with it earlier than i did. this diagnosis is new to me and completely fits my ruined marriage, failed jobs and emotional upheaval. i don't want that for my son. how can i get my son to be evaluated without the stigma at his teen age?

12-14 I was COMPLETELY addicted to xbox so so addicted I played aushahgd 12 or more hours a day STRAIGHT and then got bored because of depression or something i would talk so much on headphones and I would NEED to PLAY or else I would go completely nuts my mom would kick me outside every day because usually I was outside every day every night then TV started to get reallly boring I couldn't I still can't watch TV. I never watched TV in years and now I'm addicted to the internet but I have to have very loud music on with a hard base. And yes ritalin helps but it makes me uninterested in going on the internet.

So I'm going to buy an xbox again to reduce the internet usage because when I play xbox, I do my homework first but not with the internet.

I used to, but not as much any more. It's tough to balance with relationships, work, etc., but I used to play a lot of pokemon and warcraft, mainly.

I'm inattentive, I'd be curious to see what the spread looks like.

Eh, were not in a relationship. We're really close friends but I'm building up to try and get her to be in a relationship, just letting her have space but keep her really close. But yes it is hard to balance all those things

My boyfriend and I both have ADHD. He has really gotten me into video games. Our favourite right now is Borderlands 2 - and we're so excited for the Prequel when they're on the moon! We were really addicted to Minecraft over the Christmas break, but I think because we played it so much that we just got oversaturated with it and now we play it occasionally, but definitely not for many hours at a time because it gets boring fast. But I do really like it.

But our video game addiction is more that it's a couple's activity that we can do with each other - it's cost effective (we don't need to spend money going out to the movies or whatever or dinners out all the time - we just need to spend like $50 at one time, and get hours and days of enjoyment out of a game) and it's soothing for us both. We both get in the zone.. and it's just fun!

The thing is, my boyfriend used to only play video games in his basement. He's surprisingly very well-adjusted socially if he played as much video games as he said that he played.

I mostly only like playing video games with him rather than on my own. When I'm by myself, I'm TV addict. But lately I've noticed that I get a lot more restless and can't sit still. I guess I'm going to have to find another activity that's soothing for hours at a time. Probably something outside like gardening. I love the sun.

Oh also, I can't be that much of a video game addict because I get this weird motion sickness when I play too long (sometimes only a half an hour) - the worst is for Timesplitters (even though it's so freaking fun!) and Call of Duty. Somehow the animation in Borderlands doesn't make me that sick at all. Or only sick after a couple of hours.

As a 38 year old, I play a decent amount of video games. As long as the controls are simple, I like them. Such as the afore mentioned Minecraft. The Dynasty Warriors batch are another choice. And many role-playing games are simple in controls (except Dark Souls, I found out the hard way there...) especially turn-based ones-action ones can be a little tougher. Now 'platform' games (called such due to jumping on platforms aka: Mario games) require timing which I don't have. The fight games (Mortal Combat/ Street Fighter) have complex button controls and I get aggravated very easy if I attempt these. Although there have been a couple I can play...but not for long. Races are boring. First person shooters are okay as long as I don't go too heavy on player vs player modes. I do enjoy co-op games quite well, as long as I'm playing with a half way decent player. All in having FUN!
