So I am a 13 year old male (if 13 is below the age limit on this site, please let me know and I will leave) and I apologize for any typos. But anyways I believe I have ADD. (No hyperactivity) I seemed smart in elementary school but now that I am in middle school, stuff has been going downhill. I can't pay attention in class unless it is lab day in science, or other fun stuff. If it is boring, I just space off and go deep into thought. If something requires a ton of mental effort, I just sit there for five minutes and then I finally start doing the problem really slowly. I also go to the kitchen and for some reason I bring my Xbox controller with me from my room when my mom calls. Then I leave it there, look for my controller, realize I left it in the kitchen, go to get it from the kitchen, and come back to my room with anything BUT my controller. I also am a procrastinator. I often forget to do my homework as well. I have not had my IQ tested, but my friends often say I'm too smart and should have gone to the "gifted" people school. My parents don't believe me because my sister thought she had ADD but didn't, but I am nothing like my sister and I suspect a few of my relatives have the hyperactivity type. I think I said this already, but I think I have INNATTENTIVE ADHD. I also have a large vocabulary for my age and read at 1000 wpm ( I know...) If that helps at all.

as far as i know, there is no specific age limit on here. it is more on an individualized basis . and i dont believe 13 is even one of the questionable ages.

Welcome to PC btw!!

no worries on the typos, i have quite a few myself lol.

are your parents willing to take you to a pdoc? (sorry they are comparing you to your sister) . if not, can you speak with your school conselour about this? we cant give a proper diagnoses but we can give you our thoughts and suggestions on it

two things come to mind.. both i have some experience with. there may be others but i dont know of them. ADD is one. and Autism is another. if you didnt have any developmental delays, Aspergers (which is very common that doesnt show up, or isnt recognized until later in life(approx teen into adulthood).
Have you ever been directed to the possible diagnosis of Aspergers?

ps. you really do sound extremely smart and wiser than that of a usual 13 year old. your language skills are great too

I have suspected that I had aspergers before, but I do fine with other kids, although I am a lone wolf and hate group activities. My school counselor might cover that, but I am bad at talking to people unless thy are my friend or it is online. You mentioned autism, which I may very well have. I don't even know how to clip my nails yet, and I throw a lot of meltdowns, but those are my only autism symptoms. However, as for add, I related to 4 out of 5 symptoms of innattentive ADHD. I am also very restless and was hyper when I was a young child but after 6 years of age I was just restless. I am also fairly impulsive.
Thanks for this!

sounds like attention problems to me, but dont forget that lots of things cause attention problems and ADHD is just one of them! does anything feel like a recent 'onset', or instead just a recent 'problem'? for example, people didn't care that i was late when i was 6, but they sure cared a lot when i was 16 - as opposed to only starting to be late to things at 16. it's also worth considering what specifically you consider a 'problem', and in how many areas of your life they interfere. ADHD is present in all aspects of life, and may be less of a problem depending on environment; but its important to remember that a bad environment in particular could make someone seem to have ADHD, for example

dont forget to keep goal-oriented and avoid getting caught up in ruminating on your symptoms! learning about yourself is good and diagnosis can be a powerful force, but ruminating does quite a number on your mood. wish i could give you tips on getting thru school with attention problems but i wasn't exactly doing well when i went thru.. so instead i give you good luck!! haha

..You do sound ADD likely O_O Taking stuff conscious yet unconsciously is quite common among people who're under pressure, like school days, campus life.. But to forget a homework, I trust you that you're a good student, and you do work neatly yet.. You've missed the deadline and apologizing to teachers. I get you. You may have ADD symptoms.. You want to concentrate in class, you did, yet in the end, you're pondering as to why you couldn't recall what has been taught? Until you asked a friend and went "Oooh yeah that!"

Also, ADD affect all IQ range. You can be smart and at the same time having ADD. That's what my psychiatrist told me.

If you have time, try reading my biography on my profile.. It's a message I sent to my psychiatrist. It could be of help. ^^ Good luck! And work HARD.
