Been to a number of psychiatrists over the years and none have ever asked any Adhd testing type questions. I dont understand. And they were good doctors otherwise, qualified. I mentioned it to them about attention issues but i have bad depression as well so that comes first to treat. im also wondering if its because they don't like prescribing Add medications in general?

In general, most docs don't like prescribing ADD medications. Especially because it is very addicting.

A lot of docs are hesitant to prescribe stimulants. They're the most commonly abused prescription drug right now, even more so than narcotics, so doctors are pretty cautious. Psych appts are often so quick and so rushed and there's often so much to cover. I think you'd be better off getting an appt with a psychologist (a phD preferably, in most states, the clinician has to have a phD in order to diagnose ADHD or learning disabilities) or a neuropsychologist. They have a phD by default. Let them know when you make the appt that you're making the appt specifically to be tested for ADHD so they can plan for the appropriate time and be prepared with the correct materials etc.
I would also caution you to be open-minded. A lot of syndromes have overlapping symptoms, so try to be open to the possibility of whatever diagnosis they suggest. If you really don't agree, you can always get a second opinion, but just be open minded. Good luck.

Check with a licensed therapist first and they can point you to a specialist tester. Medical doctors generally don't have a clue how to handle mental issues. I once brought up my ADHD to my regular doctor and he starts repeating everything and talking down to me like I was child. I wanted to slug him.

I have bipolar disorder and I've been trying to get my pdoc to evaluate me for adhd because I really think I have 90% of the signs and symptoms. But as in your case he's too focused on the bipolar side of things to give the adhd evaluation a second thought. I don't even want to be on a stimulant because it might exacerbate mania but there are non stimulant treatments. He just keeps saying to get an adhd workbook and go through it on my own. But I work full time and go to college and have at least 3 appointments a week. I spend about 30 hours a week studying because it's so hard for me to focus. So when am I supposed to do this stupid workbook that I can't even afford. Sorry just venting.
