So I've been considering the possibility of having ADD, of some form or another. It didn't really occur to me, until I was once advised to have it checked out. I'm still not entirely sure if the suggestion was in jest or not!
But after looking into it a little, I noticed that I check most the boxes. Mostly, I just cannot concentrate on anything. And I tend to start things - I love to start new things, new creative projects, just jump into things. But the ending them is something I generally cannot and do not do. It's always frustrated me, because I would like to finish things I start. I really have nothing to show for myself except heaps of unfinished and usually abandoned projects. I just get too bored and distracted easily. A lot of the other symptoms - in fact I'd say most - seem to apply to me, too. But I'm really just wary of, well, 'self diagnonsis', for lack of a better word. I mean, who hasn't had trouble paying attention from time-to-time? Who doesn't get distracted? Who doesn't just feel like skipping from one activity to another? Generally, I feel that my problem is that I do these things way too often. It's not a time-to-time thing as I find my mind wandering almost constantly. It even took me a lot longer to type this than is strictly necessary as I was doing quite a few other things at the same time. I don't know, really. What I want to do is get it checked out. But I'm afraid of just wasting people's time. As I mentioned before, these are symptons everybody has at some point. So I was wondering, anyway... where would be the best place for me to go, just to have the possibility of ADD considered? Unfortunately my doctor is not somebody I feel I can just talk to, if you know what I mean. And I'd really rather not bring it up just to have it dismissed. I'm not really sure where I can go! Does anybody have any suggestions? It would be greatly appreciated! ![]() |

I was just diagnosed last year and I"m 35. I am in school and am having a hard time with the being able to tune everything else out so I can study or pay attention in class.
As for the idea that everyone has these symptoms for sometimes yea they do but people with ADD/ADHD have them all the time and it invades their lives. Jbug

It definitely interferes with my studies and such, and I even find it difficult to concentrate during a film - even if I'm enjoying it. But I'm just not entirely sure if I do have it, or if I'm just... restless? That's why I'd like to know where to turn for a professional to have a look. |

I was told that if you can't concentrate during fun things you might have ADD.
If you think you should see a professional I would just if anything for peace of mind and they might be able to help you. Jbug

Try finding a professional specializes in adult AD/HD or one that at least has a lot experience diagnosing and treating it.
A few places to start looking are: http://www.addconsults.com http://www.add.org http://www.addresources.org |
