Hello, I am having an appointment with a psychiatrist soon to see if I have Adult ADHD. I have been having a huge difficulty focusing on things I dont care about and am obssed with the things I do, good or bad. I display a lot of the symptoms and what to see if I have it. If I do, I am worried about the medication. I am 5' 8" and weigh 350lb, both my sides of my family have highblood pressure and both sides have reported hear attacks. I myself dont feel to well and have High blood pressure from time to time and also have chest pains from time to time. I havent been to the doctor in about 5 years and actually have an appointment tomorrow with my PCP to voice my concerns. I am not on any medication and I dont know if I do get diagnosed with ADHD if I should take the medicine cause I researched that you can spotanesouly die if you take it with a heart condinition or high blood pressure. I also read of some people taking BP medicine and Vyvanse or Adderall and not having a problem. Is anyone else in this situation or know of someone?

(Sorry for spelling and grammar had to write in a hurry leaving my home)
Hugs from:

Hi, Smileyfacedude. Though some here might be able to discuss it from the POV of their personal experiences, I think it's probably best to discuss this after a diagnosis. I don't know what they'll recommend, but there are non-stimulant drugs you can try first if you and your psych consider them appropriate. Alternatively, they may order some blood work and use that to make the call.

Welcome to the site, and best of luck with your upcoming evaluation.

If things go according to some kind of sanity, if you are prescribed stimulants, they will check your blood pressure. They told me if my asystole was above 90, that would mean no stimulants. Starting on Ritalin I wondered if it would make my borderline high blood pressure higher. I was actually very surprised that it actually lowered by blood pressure. I have no idea why that happened but I guess that can't be too bad?

Also where I live, followup routines are STRICT. You get your BP taken several times a year plus we do ECG every or every second year to see nothing bad is going on. I don't know the routines there, but here they actually do look after you.
Thanks for this!

You might have to try Strattera first.

But if you can get your weight down, you may be eligible for a stimulant.. OR your doctor may think the stimulant may help you lose weight, especially if you binge eat.
