Hello folks! So today I was finally diagnosed with ADHD! And will be takin Vivan soon.
My question is, what are some coping mechanisims people on here find effective for this disorder? I would very much like to know so I can better use the perks and avoid the downs! Thanks! ![]()

I think there are ways to forge will power to do what you need to do. I think I had a mild version, still do...I am diagnosed with some mood disorder (possible I have both) - I am not perfect but close to 60. You can do it...just don't give up.

Some people might be able to manage ADHD-like symptoms with pure willpower, but such people likely wouldn't be diagnosed with ADHD in the first place. Not everybody has either the mildness of symptoms or the coping mechanisms in place to be able to do the same things off the bat. Many folks need support before they can make any progress, and that's nothing to be ashamed of. Further, symptoms manifest differently in different people. |

As someone with ADHD, I will say that you can have unlimited will power and it still might not be enough. You might have the best intentions to get something done and somehow, despite your best efforts, it just doesn't get done. The day slips by and before you know it, the deadline has passed. I've been there way too many times. It's not for lack of trying. Will power helps, but sometimes it only goes so far.
Medication and other remedies make it easier to focus on learning how to manage your symptoms and acquiring habits to help (such as learning how to use a planner), but in the end, you still have to learn the skill, which requires effort.
