Hi, I have been diagnosed with ADHD, bipolar disorder and generalized anxiety disorder. I also struggle with some physical health issues. But recently, my husband experienced something similar to what I have been experiencing for several years, without realizing it. (and he did the research to see what it might be) I hear a noise but I can't distinguish it to tell what a person is saying. I thought it was not paying attention (the ADHD) or possibly a hearing problem. But a couple of years ago I got my hearing tested and the audiologist said that my hearing was fine. But I asked him, "but how come in a group I can't understand what is being said?" He said go talk to a neurologist. I didn't go. Now, that I have done a little research on central auditory processing disorder, and that it is sometimes comorbid with ADHD, I realize what he might have been thinking I would find at the neurologist. I don't know why I didn't go, but I guess I was afraid they would say I had a brain tumor or something. I figured no news was good news. Plus, I guess I kind of avoid things, sometimes.
Now, I am temporarily without health insurance until January, because my job ended in November, and there just isn't enough time to get a health insurance policy, so I guess I will wait until January to go see someone. If you have experience with this disorder, was your experience like mine? It seemed like you couldn't hear clearly enough, but then you realized even when it was quiet and you were focused, you couldn't understand what someone was saying....(although SOMETIMES after a few seconds I can understand them, but not ALL the time) Thanks for reading. Take care! |
