I feel like every day, I am struggling with cleaning my house. I have started to hate making lists for what to do, because at the end of the day it's a list of things I didn't get done. I get some done but most of it doesn't get done.
I feel like I am doing so much cleaning most days, but yet my house almost never looks clean for long (I do have two small kids so that doesn't help) and I have no energy or motivation for much else other than keeping things clean.
I need to bring some books and dvds back to the library, but that requires getting them all together, packing them in a bag, getting kids ready to go out and packing the diaper bag. Then actually getting out the door and on a bus to the library.
I have almost no motivation to do things lately because it takes too much effort.
I am on Ritalin 20mg SR which helps a lot because if I don't take it, I have severe brain fog to the point that I cannot focus or get a single thing done. So it is helping but it doesn't help with my motivation, or my terrible impulsiveness.

Sounds like you could use a different medication like Adderall, or Vyvanse I have taken Vyvanse for about 2 years and it worked great for a while, but then started wearing out before 2pm so doc switched me too Adderall 20mg 3times a day and it's been excellent every since, also with doing things it's important too make goals for day and they don't have to be huge just work up too it but when clean do a room at time don't overwhelm self and with going out find a reason you got too go out anyway like store or doctor and return your things to library on same day, but sounds like Ritalin is either too low or just not working my advice try Adderall, Adderall xr, I started with Ritalin myself I had too change before a month so look into, keep me updated JT

Hi Melmo, I can relate to your struggle. Just taking care of the little ones can be overwhelming by itself. Keep making with the list though....its good to see it and get to it if and when you can, if not there's always tomorrow . How many things are on it? I've heard it said we can put 15 things on a list and we're lucky to get to 3....and that's for a so called "normal" brain. And if you can't...so what...at least you're stepping in the right direction. Cut yourself some slack, you're doing what you can. Little steps....you're making the list. Keep it up! We are all with you!

First, there are many more important things than a spotless house. Try letting go of things. I know it can be difficult, but your health and those precious children are qqinfinitely more important.

Second, medication is an extremely inexact science. You may be on the right med, but the dosage is too low or high. Or you may just react poorly to a certain med (I couldn't tolerate Adderall while for many it's a lifesaver). It can be a frustrating process, but it is very common. Do not listen to people who say you must try [xxxxxx] because it worked for them. We are all unique.

The good news about the standard ADHD meds is that they take effect quickly. You don't have to wait weeks (as with many antidepressants, for example) to know whether med is working. But both you and your doctor must be committed to keep trying.

You have only so much energy and so much time. Choose your top 3 priorities and focus on those. A spotless house house is probably around No. 99.
