Hello, to start, im diagnosed with add. So i research alot about it. There are 6 different forms of add. There are also several medications, such as Methylphenidate (Ritalin), Adderall, dexadrine, focalin, dysoxin, and straterra. Some are long and some are short acting.
Adderall is an amphetamine with 4 different isomers. 1/4th of adderal is dextro-amphetamine (dexadrine) Its a mixture of amphetamine salts.
Straterra is more of a non addictive norepinephrine reuptake. I dont see how staterra would be a great med fo add.

Adderall, or amphetamines, release dopamine from the nucleus accumbens in the brain, which is the pleasure center or reward center. It makes you feel doing simple tasts fun. I myself feel more creative, motivated, but NOT high. Ya i may feel a bit of well-being and more focus. Just for example, before i was on adderall, doing work on my computer and sitting there typing , I may last one hour, then i would be donig something else. Now while taking adderall, iv been doing work for up to 8 hrs at a clip. More focused and motivated and "into" what im doing.

Staterra seems more like an antidepressant type like desipramine which i have taken and did nothing but make my top of my head tingle. But i havent read more into the pharmacology yet of straterra. There may be another mechanism of action im not aware of.

I'm now concerned. I was diagnosed with ADD today and the doc is going to put me on Strattera next week. Should I be concerned? I am only hearing negative things. The doc did say at first it was intended as an antidepressant. I just went to my family doctor, not a psychiatrist. They didn't do any extensive test. I just told him how I felt and took a couple of quizzes I took on the internet to him and he said he thought I was right. What are some of the negative things you've experienced or heard?

Thanks for listening.
