Hi, I am not new to PC, but I am new to this forum. For years I struggled with depression and anxiety—or so I thought. After trying about every antidepressant, antipsychotic and mood stabilizer, my pdoc put me on Dexedrine. The result was amazing. My brain slowed down, intrusive thoughts went away, I became able to concentrate at work…Now, he thinks I have ADD and he might eventually take me off my mood stabilizer, antidepressant and antipsychotic. Before, I was constantly anxious because my brain was in overdrive all the time. I got depressed because my work performance was so horrible, my relationships were difficult…I was so unorganized that my life was chaos. I have been taking the Dexedrine for several months and the depression is gone. My anxiety is at a reasonable level. This is like a godsend. For the first time in my life, I feel almost normal.
I look forward to meeting people here in this forum and learning more about ADD. Finally, I have hope that my life is going to get better.

A lot of women with AD/HD have gone though many other DXs before somebody finally realized they had AD/HD. Know that you are not alone!

Welcome to this corner! I was diagnosed with ADD as an adult at age 23. After I got the diagnosis I realized all the symptoms were there but aparently no one noticed.
In high school, I was always on the honor roll with good grades so this may have been why no one noticed. However, when I think back to high school and even before I recall comments on report cards such as 'doesn't pay attention' or 'fails to respect authority.' In college it was sort of the opposite. My grades suffered big time, and I barely graduated. I did better in smaller classes rather than big lectures. And online classes were perfect for me because I could run more at my own pace. Now I take Adderall XR every morning. One thing I have noticed since I began the med is I have fewer close calls when I am behind the wheel. I used to have moments where I would zone out and then end up stomping on the brake because I suddenly saw brake lights in front of me. I wish you all the best with this, and hopefully you doctor makes the right call. |
