I have been Adderall XR for about 3 months. This past week was offered a promotion to a supervisory position pending the completion of a drug test. I took that test today and on the form it says they'll check for Opiates,Cocaine, Marijuana, PCP and Amphetimines. I know Adderall XR is considered an amphetimine so I'm wondering how this will affect my drug test? Will it show up and what are the ramifications if I have a valid prescription from my health care provider?

Peg,

There shouldn't be a problem as long as you have a valid prescription from your doctor. On the test, there should have been a space to put any drugs that you are taking. If you didn't fill that out, definitely contact your current supervisor and let them know and show them the prescription bottle. That way, you don't look like you're trying to cover your tracks, but rather that you're being pro-active.

Hopet this helps!

I finally did get a call from the medical review officer today and the Adderall did show up in my urine. I fully expected that and provided the doctors name who prescribed as well as the pharmacy who filled it. The last fill was from Anthem RX (mail order for 3 months). I had to call Athem to ask them to fax a copy of my prescription to the MRO but they said that HIPAA prevented them from doing so but they would fax to me which they did. I then in turn faxed to the MRO but he still needed to talk to the doc to verify the prescription was valid.
Do you ever get the feeling that even thouh HIPAA is supposed to protect us, it's sometimes too protective?
Anyhow he told me that after a verification from my doc he'd call my HR person with a 'negative' and things would be set for my promotion at work!
thanks for everyones help... I do appreciate your responses!

This is awesome information to have. I recently aquired a job after a long time of not having one. It seems like everyone drug tests these days. My previous job lasted 14 years and they didn't test back then.

The job I got does not drug test until you work 400 hours. It is a seasonal job, so I doubt I will hit 400 for a while. When they said they waited 400 hours, I laughed and asked why. I guess they hire a lot of college kids who only stay a year or two. They save money by not testing until they know you will stay. When and if I do need to get tested, I will be well prepared. Just started adderall today.
Thanks for sharing your experience.

It was a relief to me to know that my privacy was protected and that my "condition" wouldn't stop me from having the job I want. I don't work where I put anyone in danger or myself in danger so it shouldn't have been an issue but the whole thing is unnerving at time....
Good luck with your new job and with the the Adderall. It's made a big difference in my life... all for the better!
