son hasnt had meds fo over a week, im ready to pull my hair out, tomorrow he will have the concerta bk because he is doing exams, this last week hes been hard work late nights , hes been waking late very grumpy , simple tasks have to be told over and over again,

twice we have resorted to giving his risperdone once in the week and one tonight as he needs to be asleep earlier than 1.30am
he also has been very hungry while not on the meds
when will he be able to cope on his own

no meds for a week

Keep in touch closely with his doc so your son's progress can be followed. Depending on symptoms, your doc may want to alter the plan. Good luck to you and your son.

Ahh.. the frustration of an ADHDers mother...unsung heroes of our world; I have a lot of respect for parents that don't give up on their ADHD children. It can and does get better. Don't worry, you'll make it through, and he probably will also. no meds for a week

Risperdone isn't an ADHD medication though, so it won't have any effect on the ADHD, just so you don't expect too much. What does he take that for? He must have something comorbid to the ADHD, and that can complicate things.

How old is your son?

He needs to have it reiterated to him to take the Concerta daily, or the ADHD symptoms will return just as fast as they left. It is expelled from the system in only a few hours, so I think you should point out to him in a very direct, assertive, yet caring manner that the reason he is having a difficult time and not feeling well lately is because of the rebound of the ADHD symptoms. Then you ask him why he isn't taking his Concerta, find out if it has side effects that made him shy away, and if so, get the medication adjusted at his doctors. If it's some other reason, tell him that I think your way isn't working, lets take the Concerta on a regular basis again.
Good luck to you, and don't worry--- I gave my mother hell on earth as a child, but now I'm treated--I'm in my twenties, in college and doing very well. I expect to be accepted to graduate school when undergraduate is completed. There is a light at the end of the tunnel...don't give up on him, he needs you to believe in him and be by his side. no meds for a week

son is leaving school this year he is 16 here in the uk they like to taper them of the meds as soon as they leave full time education and his doctor wanted him to have several breaks before this

yes i know ppl go on to have good lives but i know some adults also need meds as they struggle with coping

son uses risperidone to help sleep when i need him to mainly when hes not had meds
he used to use it a lot while he was younger but he know nows that if he doesnt sleep or gets to grumpy we will resort and give him a med
ty for your input
