Hi everyone

Just wondering if anyone was taking any vitamin/mineral supplements in conjunction with their usual medications, mood stabilisers and/or anti d's?

I started taking Omega 3's a month ago for a bad knee and its cleared it up! don't know what the other benefits are. Also thought about taking zinc and garlic capsules for the winter months.

Is it safe to take these and any other supplements with meds and is there any info anyone can give me on natural alternatives, if its safe? I am on Depakote 1000mg daily and Zoloft 50mg daily.

Thanks all.

I take vitamins, and Omegas, etc. I think the "oils" (my nickname for them) such as Omegas, Borage oil, flaxseed oil, evening primrose, are all great and help so many parts of the body.
My former pdoc and psychologist suggested I take vitamins/minerals, as well as the "oils", even while being on my meds.
It is good to check with the prescribing pdoc if there will be no med interactions. For example, thyroid meds. suggest you do not take your vitamins/minerals until about 4 hours before or after taking the med. magnesium and a few others (I can't remember) will reduce the thyroid med's efficacy.
Vitamin B's, B6 and B12 are good for the nervous system, maintenance and growth of tissue.
Many benefits can be found in such supplements. Is anyone on alternative meds as well as mood meds?

Thanks DE this is useful - I guess there isn't a miracle out there eh to have TOTAL alternatives instead of the bipolar meds?! I am trying to watch my diet as am gaining quite a bit weight at an alarming rate with Depakote, I have mentioned this to doc a few times now but it seems to fall on deaf ears!
