My son recently turned 10 yrs old & we have found places throughout the house as to where he's been chewing. It started about a yr ago w/ ALL the remote controls in the house, then the fringes on the cushions in the living room. Recently, we've discovered that he's chewed the drywall on the mantle to the split-foyer's living room along the edges & then the wooden coffee table's edges, also a photo album that was sitting on the coffee table. All positions are facing the television, so I thot maybe he had gotten bored while watching cartoons, but it's still very disturbing.
I'm an adult that was diagnosed in 5th grade as having ADHD as well & have seen many things that he is doing that I did, but I never chewed on inanimate objects. Any suggestions? |

I can understand that this would be disturbing. Could it be some type of OCD or tic? Or could it be pica? I think pica--repeated eating/chewing of non-food substances--often happens when there is a vitamin or mineral deficiency, especially for iron. Can you take the boy to the doctor for a full check-up and medical advice (and definitely include a blood test for iron)?
Good luck. I would be interested to hear what your son's doctor says, so I hope you will check back.
