I am a 20 year old sophomore in college and want to get tested for ADD or ADHD. I have had a suspicion for a few years now and my mother has been saying I have ADD since I was just a little kid. My father has been very against this and will refuse to accept that his son might have ADD. I am a little embarrased about this and that may be the reason. I am also embarrased to bring this up to my physician whom I have had for as long as I can remember and who thinks I have absolutely no trouble with my schoolwork and everyday life. I'm not sure where to go to get help or get tested and was wondering if anybody could maybe give me some advice. I am an Electrical Engineering major and am surprised I have successfuly made it this far, although I can tell you it has been a very difficult and stressful past two years. I am just hoping to get the help I need as soon as possible and look into something that should have been checked a very long time ago. Thank you. Colin.

I would start with my primary Doctor. He may be able to direct you to the right place. Also, your college should have some type of Health Services. They may also lead you in the right direction as well. If you have insurance, some of them have websites where you can search for specific help.
Hope this helps.

Hi Colin,
Go to your college counseling center, psychological services center, health center, or learning assistance center. They should be able to set you up with either an assessment or a referral for an assessment. Are you on student health insurance or your parents insurance? If you are on your parents insurance, that may be sticky, but not impossible. Also, did you take the ADHD test on this site? Good luck to you. gg

Hi,
Thanks for all the help guys. I am going to visit my school's health center to see where they can lead me once i get back from Easter break. I have student insurance so I guess I lucked out there. I have taken the websites ADHD test and I scored an 80 on it. I was surprised to hear a lot of the questions because they were so accurate as to what I feel like. Thanks again for the help and I will let you know how it goes with my school's health center. Colin |

I wish I had my adhd diagnosed when I was in school. School life would have been so much less complicated. I have a son about your age with adhd and he is doing great in school. I know you can do it too!
Take care and Happy Easter

Well I finally took the first step this week and called my school's health center. They gave me a number for an academic counselor who in turn gave me the number of a doctor. I talked to the doctor, who wants to see me, but im waiting for him to call me back. He is just checking to see if my health insurance covers me coming in. If not, I don't know what I will do. But, as of now I'm just waiting for a call back.
