I am 52 and as a child was held back in first grade; I remember first through fourth grades I had attended a special reading program in school and also, flash cards where used to help me with math. I had a very difficult time throughout my childhood in school. I have had a lifetime of major depression, OCD, ADHD, and a history of Asperger's Syndrome. I do recall back in 1973, when I was 16, I was in a psychiatric ward and had good to school there; class was of about 3 students, and I did quite well, B+ average. It has been a very complicated life, but I am still here. Best to YOU, ADHD1956 |

My oldest two boys both are ADHD and have learning disabilities.
They are 23 and 26, and had many problems in High school but with much work and lots of good teachers.l They made it through school. Both received their diplomas, with other issues too. My oldest also has a emotional handicap that took many years to find a medication that would even touch it. And he is still dealing with thing. My middle one had migraines that put him in bed for weeks at a time. Also light and something maybe mold in his school caused him to miss lots of school. He even dropped out for a year. And went back homebound. My youngest will get what Indiana calls a Certificate of Completion, thanks to seizures. And the fact that they robbed his reading ability. And the state of Indiana believes if you can't read words at a certain age range you can't do anything. But he is a joy and will go far. Hi everyone. Donna ![]() |

Does anyone else have problems like these? If so, do you know if they are simply a result of ADHD or if there might be something else going on? Thanks, Kate |

Ahh, yes. I took a test for entrance to a junior college. They called me in and said (I will never forget) "if we had not seen you take this test we would have thought you were reading something else". I have always had a problem reading and taking tests. I see a test and I am wondering what book that it came out of. I probably studied harder than anyone in any class. It continues even as an adult.
