The A.skate Foundation and Birmingham, Alabama need your help! A.Skate is up for a $50,000 grant from Pepsi to build the first disabilities/autism friendly skatepark in the world! Birmingham, Alabama doesn’t have a skatepark, and A.Skate hosts clinics for children with autism. They’ve been hosting their local clinics in parking lots and unsafe DIY spots.

I have Asperger's, and I skateboard. Skateboarding is very therapeutic for me when it comes to sensory issues. I love feeling the board rolling on the ground, and I love hearing the wheels hit the ground when someone (I can't do big tricks yet. lol) lands a trick. It's also a low pressure, individual sport. You can skate at your own pace, and it allows you to be social without being "social." Not to mention, the great exercise you get which is beneficial to anyone.
