Lol! The weather. I am a total weatherhead! A few days before New Years, the mother of a customer mother/son team (I work in graphic arts) actually told him to call me to find out if the weather really was going to be as bad as the weather guy had called for. That cracked me up! And what was funnier is, I called it right. It wasn't as bad as they had said, but the next storm did produce more ice than the Weather Channel said, but it dissapated pretty fast. (See what I mean? Once I start, I can't stop it!)

Oh, and my cat. Trust me, you DON'T want to catch me on the phone if my cat is watching the weather!!

I don't believe I've been laughed at for these, because they are considered quite 'normal'. My interests are neuroscience (mental disabilities, in particular), Myers Briggs Type Indicator - which is a type of cognitive/psychological categorisation theory, quantum physics (especially String Theory and dark matter) and concept art.

I have not been diagnosed with Aspergers, but I have my suspicions. My "obsession" is about anything animal related. I collected feathers and stuffed animals as a kid, now I collect Zuni fetishes which are rock carvings of animals done by Zuni native americans (they're beautiful--for those who like rocks, you should google it!). I LOVE to talk about dog breeds and learn about geckos. I love the zoo, and I loved playing imaginary games where I was an animal while I was playing as a kid. I read books and research stuff online all the time about various animals (especially african ones) just to satisfy my curiousity... I volunteered at animal shelters and have worked at a pet store. I've gotten internships at wildlife rehab centers. Heck, I'm going to college and majoring in Wildlife Ecology. People think I'm weird because I know so many random facts about animals and that I get excited when I talk about things like my geckos or dog breeds. I just think to myself, "Why don't you find this as fascinating as I do?!"

Doesn't have to be a negative, although I know many liken it to OCD like traits. I think obsession itself is neither postiive or negative. Kind of just a word that describes someone's behavior. I say neither positive or negative, for me at least because some of my obsessions have been positive in my life. I can be very engrossed, even obsessed with drawing at times in my life and in no way do I see it as a bad thing. I think it depends on the type of obsession and whether it interferes with your well being that determines if it's negative or not. Just my 2c.

I know that I get obsessed with gaming. I play games to death sometimes, like right now I'm playing a certain game that I've found I've put in 181 hours into in the past 2 weeks or so..

I seem to develop deep connections with parts of things or devices. I have been this way since I was really young. For years, I felt ashamed and tried to hide it. Am I the only one like this? [/quote]

I'm sure this is a typical autism spectrum pattern.

I like doorknobs, buttons, switches, way too much. Also tiles or mosaic patterns, I always notice them and count them automatically.

Pop music lyrics of some odd songwriters. Any odd word or phrase will call up a lyric from someone I won't mention.

I have been obsessed with a video game character for almost four years now. I draw him, write about him, search for information about him. I could quote him if I didn't feel stupid quoting people.

Video Games, American Football (I can name every player, every position, every team, and every type of play... I should be a coach ).

And counting out patterns on the floor. I have to watch the tile patters, or the rug patterns, or walk along the pattern in an exact line. Oh and fiddling with things that make random noises. I really, really enjoy fiddling with things that make noises.
