What are some of your interest and obsessions that result in being laughed at others?

Trains and health. >_> I have no one to talk to when I get excited about catching a train or two coming through the tracks after having tracked it for the past 30 minutes. Whenever I do talk about it, people think I'm weird or crazy.

I have had many obsessions over the years. Interests I have had since childhood are human physiology/anatomy, pathophysiology, meteorology, and astronomy. Borderline personality disorder is another intense interest I picked up about 15 years ago. I also had a few short lived passions, like the band Tool and bass guitars.

My mineralogy interest is what I call a "normal" hobby. It is not obsessive at all.

There was a time, I had a very odd obsession with a certain object nobody understood. I cannot mention it here, because I am embarrassed about it. It started when I was eight and finally died out when I was around 25. My entire existence revolved around it so it greatly interfered with relationships. It was all I talked about so I cannot blame people for avoiding me and thinking I was very weird.

I seem to develop deep connections with parts of things or devices. I have been this way since I was really young. For years, I felt ashamed and tried to hide it. Am I the only one like this?

After hearing so many complaints from family and the few friends I had, I decided to keep all my obsessions to myself. Most of the time, I can do this. Sometimes, I fail like I did last night. Didgee stop talking about borderline personality disorder! I admit, I am really obsessed. Sometimes, I wish it would end, especially when it interferes with my studies.

Ugh.. obsession is a word I will save for negative experiences, like not feeling like you locked the door even if you should know you did it.

Had many different interests, but I can't remember being laughed at at all. Sometimes I've probably talked about things people weren't interested in. Thing is, others talk to me all the time about things I find extremely boring, so I think all people do it. It's just that sports, weather, TV, and the latest thing you "should" be negative about, all are OK things to involve people in. As are their children, grandkids, son-in-law's job, daughter's knitting project and so on. Things not allowed are geeky things.

I usually let other people lead, if I don't feel like I can be myself with someone. If I feel I can, there is usually no problem. They will then also talk about whatever they like. And no one cares what the norm is! We sort of make up the rules between US.

I don't really talk much about what I'm interested in, as most of them are solitary anyway. I know that people would look strange at me if I started talking about stuff. Now I sort of didn't bring it up, but my care worker and I suddenly talked about airplanes (slight interest). I was going to say something about the captain and co-pilot and for some reasons captain sort of just disappeared from my head, so I thought about it, and she fills in with "PILOT!", like expecting an applause or something for knowing the person flying a plane is a pilot. Then you realize there is just no way you can talk to them about anything of interest, since they don't know first thing about, well almost anything.

OK, I'm being unfair now I know, I know people with AS learn more deeply and less broad, but at least I try to also keep a broad knowledge base. Funnest is watching game shows on TV with them, and they not knowing anything about anything, maybe they can tell a name of an actor by looking as their photo (which I can't I must admit...), but else nothing much. My care worker though (game show question) that leopards indeed live in the Amazonas. When we talked about it a little, it comes out she basically thinks Africa and South America are the same continent.

But then I realize we have different ideas at all why we watch the show. I enjoy the questions, and secondary to that is the behavior of the participants. Her involvement was all about the money they could win, and how they behaved.

So no, not going to discuss the problem with my custom built computer not leaving enough space for the cover of the chassis fan, the raising of cuy in Asia and South America OR future issues with water soluble oil paint.

My obsessions have varied over my life. As a child, it was bicycles, tricycles, powerwheels, and other ride toys. I would check them out and see how everything worked and what made them move. As I got older, this evolved into fourwheelers, vehicles, jetskis. For about a year now, I'm very interested in mental health and psychology. I actually started back to college in January to get another degree. First one was engineering related, this one is psychology. Other obsessions have been blueprints, rock collecting, and drums.

another obbsession of mine is accidents and disasters.

so when something happened say near me, i want to know everything.. who was involved, what happened- is the area closed, how long will it be closed, did people have to evacuate the area.. those types of questions.

but when it comes to finding about the people involved- their condition etc, i've lost interest

Yea, that is me. I don't really want to know about people involved, because I then feel bad I used their accident as entertainment for myself. I'm mostly into plane crashes though, and we don't have them locally.. so far.

For some reason, the word "buckles" has always been interesting and amusing to me. It's been that way since I was very young--I'd always say it out loud and then giggle right afterward. Go figure.

rocks ..... I have collected them since I was a child. My mother.. not so happy about the whole rock thing.... but even what people think are yard rocks, I have to look at them if they have a pattern in them or colors or texture.... well, you get the idea. The postman hates me on the holidays because I order up rocks on the internet for presents to myself.

Things that catch my attention:
Lights .... I catch myself just looking at them sometimes when out in public. Hate it that happens! But always have been that way. In fact, my first baby words were "Light Hot" LOL

I collect rocks too. I got a rock tumbler one Christmas when I was like 10-12 years old. I still have it and I'm 25 now. I bought a grit refill last weekend to start a new batch to tumble. I've bought rocks in person especialy at gift shops and museums. I have browsed online but never bought them.
Thanks for this!

rocks are cool,

in sted of collecting them, i tend to throw them everywhere... i['ve always had an obsession of where i have some rocks, big ones that my brother found me at the beach, and then i just scatter them all over the room- pick them all up, and put them in a bag- then put them in the bin

dunno... just 1 of my weird things!
Thanks for this!

Music, films, history, science, news, and politics. Not since my dad passed have I been able to talk to anyone about any of it. No one else seems interested in it.

I've always been intensely drawn to the sound of a vacuum cleaner. When I was a small child I literally followed it around the house when my mum was cleaning and curled up with it. I used to hum with it. Now I have the sound of a vacuum cleaner on my iphone and I play it more than anything else by MILES.

(This is a bit yukky!) When I was a teenager and became obsessed with scratching the palm of my left hand to the point where it became raw and impossible to close, but I kept doing it anyway. This was not self-harm. It was definitely obsessive.

I've only just joined this web-site forum, but it's funny how all my quirky behaviours now have seemingly rational explanations (if you could ever call Asperger's rational in the conventional sense).

I collected all the state quarters - then I got robbed and that was the end of my joy in that. . .
I'm still interested in coins - just don't collect them.

It's the third person singular of the verb to obsess, so it is a word. No worries.
