Does anyone else have to deal with big obsessive issues? We like 'Hawaii five 0' (2010) and everything has to revolve around if it doesn't we can't do anything or work, or socialize easily. It is especially hitting me hard at the moment... I have lots of work to do which i am unable to complete mainly because of this, there's a number of other things i am unable to complete because of this also so i end up goofing everything up, how did any of you over come this kind of thin g or work around it? (if you did). I don't know what to do....
Any suggestions? -Scott (Danno) ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() |

There is no easy answer.
You have to force yourself to focus on more important things like work. Once that is complete, you can reward yourself with 'Hawaii five 0'. Perhaps, you can take breaks, focus on your interest for a set time and then return to work, but you must be strict about it. Another thing you can try is thinking about all the negative consequences that may occur if you neglect your responsibilities. I have used this approach and it has worked well. For example, getting good grades is an effective motivator for me to focus on my studies, rather than my obsessive interests. An F on my university transcript isn't very appealing so I will do just about anything to prevent that from happening. Last edited by The_little_didgee; Apr 30, 2013 at 07:40 AM. |

Question--
Who is the "we" you are referring to? I know that sometimes with Autism/Asperger's people (myself included) will use the word "we" instead of "I" but I just wanted to clarify if your talking about only yourself or if you are referring to yourself and others in your home or in your life. As to the obsession, I know that other people with Autism/Asperger's often struggle with this and find coping strategies in therapy. It seems as though a form of therapy called Cognitive Behavioral Therapy seems to work well when dealing with this type of issue. |

Im sorry you are finding it so hard to get things done, obsessions may be a way of distracting yourself, i hope you think about talking to a therapist, it coud be very helpful to find ways of dealing with these issues, you should not have to go through this alone

Was there something wrong with my advice? You responded to everyone else, including the ones who provided none.
