hi I am a mum of a nearly 3 year old boy who is in the process of getting an multi disciplinary assessment. I'm looking for any advice I can get as so far we keep being told he is showing a lot of asd traits ( little or no eye contact, play behaviour delay, speech delay, hand flapping, not answering to his name, alot of sensory issues, no fear and also mentioning ADHD. Unfortunately after 8 months of waiting we are looking atanother 6 to 12 months before they'll give a full diagnosis and until then we have to go without any input as to how to manage all of this. Any advice that could help us would be really appreciated.

The good thing is that your son is diagnosed early. Early diagnosis is crucial for your son to be able to get through his school years with the right support.

Hi Magicmum, it's a terrible emotional rollercoaster when you are waiting for the diagnosis. I thought we were NEVER going to get it ( son 12 dx with ASD aged 8 ), and then when we did I kinda felt like I was handed the diagnosis and drop kicked out into the world. I live in KK and I see you are in Ireland too so I am fully aware of what you are facing as our services are just terrible.

I am a member of a couple of support groups on Facebook and actually ran a support group myself for over a year so if you ever want to talk, or are interested in joining one of the groups please let me know.

The most important thing is support from other folks who are going through what you are and to get tips and advice on how to deal with situations with you Son.

It's always amazed me how much I picked up from talking to others and how much their tips and tricks have helped make things easier, afterall who best to give you ideas than those who have tried and tested them.

I wish you the very best of luck.
