I have finally seen a psychiatrist! It's still unofficially since I'm not registered in any medical record, so no meds for now, but at least I've seen a psychiatrist, a truly advised person.
It turned out that the diagnosis my acquaitance suspected I might have was pretty accurate indeed, only that I was not truly obsessive compulsive, nor schizotypal, but Aspie, which, according to the psychiatrist, might be mistaken for schizotypal/schizoid personality disorder...So my final diagnosis is GAD, Cyclothymia and Asperger...
It really is a relief to find out I wasn't suffering from some kind of mental retardation keeping me from knowing how to behave in society and blah blah blah, like I thought and felt my whole life as far as I remember.

On the meds, now...I'm afraid of them a little. I'm afraid of their side effects, mostly; I don't want to gain a lot of weight, or sleep 16 hours/day, or get priapism and so on...I'd rather endure pain than get any of the above...What to do? Is there any kind of 'side effects free' meds, or at least meds with very mild ones, such as sleepiness or fatigue?

Always nice to know eh!
Funnily enough, when my GP referred me to my most recent PDoc she was actually worried I may be suffering from psychosis. Turned out to be a mix of Aspergers, DID, and OCD.

Don't have any advice on meds I'm afraid, I'm still resisting taking any medication for my new diagnosis as I am already on quite a bit for other health problems and I hate having to take them as it is so I don't want to add more that could cause side effects mixed with my other stuff yet.
Thanks for this!

I have some health problems and hate taking meds too. Best of luck to you!

P.S. The meds I'm asking about are for GAD&Cyclochymia, not Asperger (no meds for this condition as far as I know); it won't let me edit my post once again...
Thanks for this!

Yeah I haven't heard of any meds for AS, other than perhaps anti anxiety meds to help with reducing stress levels when things like routines get broken/interrupted. My PDoc wants me on meds for my OCD and DID, but she didn't actually say what they were as I kind of cut her off abruptly haha.

Thanks man, same to you.

I could really use some anti-anxiety meds, and I mean now! It's terrible to feel scared in your own home after dark...
Thank you

Both my Husband and Son have Aspergers, there is no cure or medication for this Syndrome. Have you read up about it ? I know when our Son was diagnosed, reading up about it was a huge relief for my husband to find out that his behaviour was A Typical and he got a lot of closure for past events.

Aspergers Syndrome is on the High end of the Autism spectrum, and if you are being diagnosed with it I highly recommend reading up on it as it will help you a lot to understand the traits and to find coping skills etc.

As for the meds, I assume they are for you Anxiety ? I suffered from GAD and it is the most debilitating thing ever, so I feel for you coping with that on top of the ASD

I hope you find the answers you need., and peace of mind

Yes, I've been reading a lot about it since the diagnosis. At first I was really confused, because I don't have many problems with very small discussions (e.g. school/health-related), but then I read there are three degrees of Asperger and, like in any other 'disorder', its manifestation varies from person to person.
I got a feeling my life's going to be a lot easier from now on, since I know what is happening to me and why (though social phobia will still complicate things).

The meds are for anxiety, yes. I should be taking meds for cyclothymia too, but to be honest it doesn't bother me as much as anxiety does, the later being omnipresent.

Thank you, and I wish you and your family all the best!

Yeah when I got diagnosed my hyper focus kicked in big time and I read pretty much every article/book/forum I could find about AS and ASDs in general. It is nice to see that other people feel and react to things the same way you do, especially when you've lived so long thinking you were completely alone and different to everybody else on the planet, at least that's something eh.
Thanks for this!

Oh, tell me about it! None of my -few- friends share my enthusiasm, nor is used to my 'oddity'. I communicate mostly via Internet, and it's very frustrating when your conversation partner is not exactly like you...You get bored, he/she gets bored and eventually the conversation ends.
And, as a matter of fact, reading about mental conditions is one of my hobbies
Thanks for this!
