When JER (author of Look me in the eye) started working for Autism Speaks, there was an outcry in the autistic and Asperger community. JER, among other autistics who wanted to work with Autism Speaks, had been warned that they would change nothing. Learning the hard way is still learning, and I assume it was a painful experience, so I really think JER did a good job here, stepping down.

I think he made the right choice. I really don't like that organisation, for several reasons, not least of all because they refer to us as a 'problem'.

It was totally the right choice since he had no influence. I guess they just wanted an autistic person to show as a puppet. And no, it's not a very nice organization at all. I have been in touch with its members and I swear 90 % of them are mentally abusive.
