I know that many people with dyslexia can have that kind of problem, but you would also have trouble with things like reading, handwriting, reading comprehension, spelling, etc. if you were dyslexic.

My mom does that kind of stuff all the time, especially mixing up left and right and always calling people by the wrong names - like interchanging the names of her sisters or children. Usually she just uses one wrong one first and quickly corrects herself, but every once in a while she will call me the names of both of my brothers before getting it right. She's been doing that for a long time and it's not a memory getting worse with age thing at all.

I don't think it's really a problem of any kind unless you are also having other issues that this is related to (like dyslexia for example).

Right, I don't think it's a problem honestly....I did it all the time when my kids were young...my daughter is Elsa and my son is George....so anytime I called them, my son became El-george and my daughter was Jer-elsa! When they were little they actually thought it was their names. pffft

I don't do it much anymore, although I am terrible at remembering names, period...never forget a face. I have photographic memory, so that helps...with some things. Just not recalling names correctly, I guess.

I have no idea what it is called. Opposites always frustrated me and I mix them up. Sometimes I mix up the concept and if I do that it sticks... sometimes I just mix up the words.

I often say up when I mean down, and I say next year instead of last year, yesterday instead of tomorrow. I think the words are stored so close to each others in my head that I hit the wrong one a lot. I practice a lot with concepts, like really remember which is the Arctic and which is Antarctica, stuff like that.

I think that can happen to anyone in a mental rush.
Thanks for this!
