I have this really loud air conditioner and even when I put it on the fan only setting or the lowest setting that it has, it still sounds very loud. My mom and brother both insist that it sounds quiet and that my mom's air conditioner is the one that is loud, but my air conditioner is keeping me awake at night and I have to cover my ears.

Do you hear things louder and then everybody around you says that that they can't hear what you hear? I even put the air conditioner up to the phone for my friend to hear and even he agrees that it's super loud! Because of this loud air conditioner, I'm not getting any sleep and I've had to cancel a few driving lessons this summer.

I hear you..pun intended lol
I am sensitive to noise, last week as I was talking with my neighbour over the fence I looked up as I heard 'whooshing' sounds I pointed out to her the skydivers...she couldn't believe that I heard the parachutes open. Unnecessary noise really bothers me I find that I m overloaded by it and some noises are painful to my ears. I have purchased ear plugs to help with something's that are unavoidable. Have you thought about noise cancelling headphones?

I've tried them and earplugs, but they are very uncomfortable for my ears. That's why I just cover my ears with my blanket when I'm sleeping and my pillow too or I just don't put on my air conditioner at all.

I find that sudden sharp noises, like someone dropping something, can instantly make me tense and nervous. Just my experience.

Check out my MISOPHONIA thread in the Depression forum. Or google Misophonia. And yes, I hear and feel everything
