Hi everyone, I hope that this thread is ok. My partner was diagnosed with aspergers as a child and may be rediagnosed as an adult. I am looking for resources for partners of aspies. Thank you so much. I also have a question which I will ask here if that is ok.

Welcome!

You may possibly find other partners of aspies here. Go ahead and ask your question. We can maybe answer it or refer you to somebody who can answer it if we cannot.

Wondering why your partner needs to be re-diagnosed as an adult?

Look up the autism organizations online and contact them for resources. Good Luck!
Thanks for this!

Turns out he wasn't diagnosed. One of the things we're sorting out is wishful thinking from lying. He may or may not have aspergers but his father actually thought he had it a few years ago. I initially thought my partner had bpd. I still think he might but I'm also pretty sure he has aspergers. I know there is a lot of information out there on the web and tomorrow I'm going to pick up The complete guide to AS at the library.
Thank you for your response.

Asperger's and BPD have some similar traits. I have high functioning autism but not BPD but the PC Sanity Score says I likely have BPD.

I think this is pointless. You are buying a book to learn more about him when the book is about something he isn't even labeled with.

Say this book says 'people with Aspergers do X and Y wrong'. Then he does X wrong. What does it matter?
Let's be honest. You aren't here to learn about the best way to be swept away by Asperger's traits. You are here for the potential negative issues. Are you really able to lower your standards for him because he might have Asperger's? Because that's about all you can achieve, imo.

If you want to learn more about him .Talk to him or do things together. Ask him how he feels.

I'm awaiting my partner's diagnosis next week.

Hi I'm afraid you have totally misunderstood me. I am not buying the book. I will be checking it out from the library. Since I do not have aspergers and this is a not a partners forum I think I will let this thread run its course and leave it at that. Thank you for your time. I have known my partner for 4 years. That is not the issue.
Thanks for this!

Leomama,

I also have a partner with Aspergers. We've been together for almost 2 years. He is also not officially diagnosed as it would have destroyed his career and any hope of having one in the future. I understand what you were going for with this thread. What helped me was reading the articles on Autism/Aspergers on this site and periodically reading this forum.

I don't know if my experiences can help you or not, but feel free to PM me if you want someone to talk to that would relate to you in this manner.

Thank you, I will add you as a forum, and stay in the forum then. My relationship is pretty unstable right now and the diagnosis is tentative however if it occurs I believe it will help stabilize the relationship. There are other major problems that may have occurred as a result of the AS. If he has AS that will help me deal with the other problems.
