Muffy, can I make a big shout out to my cousin who died 3 years ago from a heart attack due to severe autism? He was 18 and lived in the UK. I want to send a big smooch to him in heaven on this World Autism Awareness Day and big smooches to my aunty and uncle and cousins who gave him the best care they could in his short life.

I am so glad more is being done to make people aware of this syndrome......Sorry muffy, hope i didn't steal your thread.

(((Michah)))))))))) life use to be so hard when he was young. Now it is so much better. I and him are very blessed.
At times I do feel like hanging my head , with not knowing what to do next. But he has adovacated for himself so well these last few years.
I still step in from time to time.
All as I want is for him to be happy
Thanks for this!

I'm confused... how do you die of a heart attack due to autism? Autism is a neurological disorder that doesn't touch the heart--not unless you have something else in addition to autism.

Hi there, my cousin suffered many seizures as a child due to the severity of his condition and his heart just couldn't take anymore. I think the hormonal and physical changes of teenage hood(even impaired) was too much on his weakened heart.

As Muffy said, there is still much we don't know.........
