I never wanted a boyfriend, but then I became an adult, the majority of people tell me that I need a boyfriend to be happy and then have children. but I also do not want to have children. although I have never changed my mind, I'm afraid of what they say is true, I'll suffer without a boyfriend and no children. I think my avoidant personality disorder is why I think that way, wanting to be single for life. but I do not want anyone to touch my body, I find it absurd. and if he betrays me, hurt me, mess up my plans of life and my way of life, or to kill me? I also do not want to devote myself to take care of a child and the problems of a boyfriend because I prefer to devote my time to myself or family and friends, they are not intrusive on my privacy or my plans in life. live without APD implies want to have a boyfriend?

Hello, LaSol. You have to live your life. You get to define who you are. If you are satisfied with your life, the opinions of others who disagree with the life you have chosen have little or no significance.

If you are being treated for avoidant personality disorder, please share your thoughts with the therapist. Therapy could change what you might want in your life.

If you're happy being single, then tell everyone else to back off. It's YOUR life.

I often think I'd be better off on my own, although I do enjoy the company of others. I have three children, hard work, but my T tells me that my hsband does have issues affecting the marriage, not just me.

Precisely.

It could be your avpd, or it could not. Can't say. I know that I'm not really interested in a romantic relationship, and fear of rejection has very little to do with it (as I've definitely tried in the past). I just don't want one. No interest in children, or kissing, any of that.

Some non-AvPD people are this way, too.

It's your life. If you don't want a boyfriend, you don't have to have one. I think society puts too much emphasis on dating. I guess because of the whole... having children thing. But for some of us, children are simply not a goal.

Honestly, I would be happy with a life long platonic room mate.

You do what you feel is BEST for you! Don't ever let others dictate how you should live your life. The idea that we all have to date and have children to be fully complete and functional is such an outdated idea, pressuring us unnecessarily. It gets my blood boiling. I don't know if I'd ever wanna date and have kids in the future, but for the time being I am much happier when single. I hate it when someone goes "isn't it time you got a bf?" like I am only half a person when myself.
