Out of curiosity, I looked it up and it seems to be something I have a lot of similarities with. I tend to feel like I'm not into things enough when talking to someone, like perhaps a book genre, when they talk about so many different authors and I haven't heard of some of them.

For example, I recently joined a group dealing with geek type stuff on meetup.com and now I don't feel like I'm geeky enough to really be a part of the group. So as a result, I haven't been exactly RSVPing for events. That and I don't exactly want to burden people for rides.

I've always had trouble with social situations and anxiety even thinking about going to a bar by myself. So, I tend to avoid most social situations. I don't have any really close friends either.

Also, I'm not very touchy or feely, but have a deep down strongly seeded desire to have a deep and meaningful relationship with a guy.

Does any of this sound like AvPD?

Hi there,
Having a personality disorder is not easy to diagnose. Even many psychiatrists aren't sure and they diagnose you with a social phobia, anxiety or depression.

It has to be a pervasive pattern of behaviours following the criteria stablished for each personality disorder.

Said that, in the way you are having problems of social inhibitions and your coping mechanism is to avoid things rather than facing to them, you have soné thing to work out, or overcome.

Have you got the possibility to attend to any place for a diagnosis? I felt release when I finally got my diagnosis and I knew what I had to combat.

Good luck!

Hey Artchic, I've heard that not liking to be touched is a symptom of AvPD. I also crave intimacy but get anxious when it's presented. I tend to shut down emotionally around people, even family. I always keep people at arm's length. AvPD has a lot of similar symptoms to social anxiety disorder.
