So today my boss (who usually is telling me how I fail,) let me know that she is impressed with how I handled very complex patients while she and the other educator were out. I was able to help a patient overcome a low blood glucose and also help a patient who needed assistance with finding tape for his insulin pump.

Well, she said today that I could become a diabetes educator if I had the schooling. But, that's not the best compliment. The best compliment was she also told this to her boss.

So Ha! I'm not an idiot after all! I wish I could afford schooling (need at least a bachelors degree,) to be a diabetes educator. I would love to help people. And because my dad has really bad complications due to diabetes, I am passionate about it....

That is wonderful. PM me about school if you really want A BA/BS. I'll help you figure out how. It's one of the few things I'm good at

That is awesome, Dark Heart! I think that you should attempt to get your bachelor's and become a diabetes educator. I am currently in college and can personally attest that there are a lot of scholarships out there that can help. You could also do your first two years at a community college, which would save you money. If you do well at the community college, you'll probably get a merit-based scholarship when you transfer.

One thing worth mentioning: college is really hard with bipolar disorder. It's hard to go to class when you are depressed (and just about impossible to study), and it is hard to study when you are high and convinced that you are brilliant and know everything already. Despite this, I believe that it is worth the effort and pain.

Thanks to you both!

I honestly don't see myself going to school unless my work helps me pay for it and is absolutely going to offer me a job, (which I doubt, remember that only 2 weeks ago this same woman was saying I'm so horrible I should be fired.... everything is very inconsistent.) Also its a career that is hard to find steady work in, my company is only one of two in the whole state who has services like ours, with two full time educators on staff. Its very rare.

Dark that's awesome your boss said that. Very rewarding and means alot. I also have a boss that demeaned me for years. Told me I had a month to shape up or ship out several times. Kept my cool and did whatever he wanted and thensome. After a few months he gave me a raise. It's those little things that keep us going. Def go further in your education if you'd like to. But if you're content for now, then it's just not your time. Do it when you feel it 100%. Congrats!!!
