I started taking buspar at 5 pm. It knocked me out at 6pm and I woke up at 8pm. Then fell asleep at 10 pm and woke up at 12:30. My mind feels very clear and I have more energy. I don't think this is hypomania because I just got over a hypomanic episode a few weeks ago and have heard it can't re-appear that quick. But I do feel more organized mentally and not tired. I'm reading there's an activation to buspar and that it isn't necessarily hypomania in people with bipolar. But I woke up and both times started cleaning. I'm questioning all this because when I do get hypomanic, it starts with anxiety and then bam, I know it within a couple hours. I don't want to be rapid cycling but also am not well medicated in my opinion. Just taking risperidone and buspar right now. I had quit taking my meds for a long time and restarted 3 weeks ago the risperdal.

Risperdal increased my anxiety x1,000. I was so edgy on them I couldn't relax. It was awful!! I was only on them a couple weeks but **** ever putting one of those in my mouth again.

Risperidone never gives me anxiety. But I almost think the buspar takes away anxiety but makes me edgy. Or else it's making me hypo. Idk.

I was on a prety good dose of Buspar for two and a-half years. It did not do a darn thing for me. I get panic attacks with my mixed episodes sometimes. Klonopin is by far the most effective treatment for those, but it aggravates my depression, which made us stop it. So, I just go without an anxiety med per se at the moment.
I was on Risperdal for three years. It did not make my anxiety worse in my opinion. If you've neer tried Klonopin, you might at least look into it and give it a shot. If the anxiety is that bad, it will likely help you. Sending you calming vibes and peace and support.

Buspar did nothing for me. It was basically a sugar pill. In fact, it was so useless for me that I quit it cold turkey off the highest possible dose and I had no withdrawal. None. Nada. Zip. Nil. My pdoc warned me that I shouldn't have done that, but I knew it wasn't doing anything for me in the first place, so that's why I didn't care about "withdrawal." (I'm not saying you should go cold turkey if it isn't helping, though. Don't. I should have listened to his advice to be on the safe side.)
I recommend reading this page: BuSpar Side Effects: Common, Severe, Long Term - Drugs.com That page says one of the more common side effects is: "Restlessness, nervousness, or unusual excitement" -- Would you agree with that? |

Forgot to say, some people do get some benefit from gabapentin--have you tried it?

I hope you benefit from Buspar. My daughter has persistent GAD and Buspar has been a miracle for her.
