I am starting to notice that I have anger management issues. I am not physically violent towards anyone nor am I verbally abusive.
Little things will set me off and fill my body with rage. I figuratively feel like punching someone...etc. I just get so full up anger and frustration. These bouts of anger and rage can last several minutes to hours. These are some of the things that cause me to feel very angry and frustrated: > I have 2 private parking stalls where I live and occasionally someone will use my vistor's parking stall. Sometimes its only for an hour sometimes its for a whole day. Where I live our parking stalls are assigned to us and are private. When someone parks in my vacant parking stall I become extremely angry and frustrated. My body is filled with rage and I feel like my space is being violated. > My neighbours live nearby and when they make noise that is in my mind annoying I get very angry. > Someone is repeatedly unlocking the driver's side door of my car. I have a car alarm installed and a steering wheel lock. Whomever is doing this just unlocked the driver's side door and doesn't open the door (gain access to the inside of my car). I now live a life filled with anger and frustration because I feel like I am constantly being harrassed. I need help to control my anger management issues because I am starting to feel like my dad who my doctors have told me that he probably had bipolar disorder. The difference is he was physically and verbally abusive. He would have temper tantrums. He had an explosive temper. I don't want to become like my dad in anyway. How do I control my anger, rage, and frustration? I feel physically ill after a bout of anger...etc. |

There are a lot of resources about Anger management. I have found that I have temper tantrums over very small things because I wasn't expressing anger about important things. Anger itself is not a bad emotion. It is when it gets out of ontril or interferes with our daily lives that it becomes a problem.
I am on a better medication combo now which helps, but I have found that if I express my annoyance when a situation happens, I don't fill slowly with anger until I blow up at something trivial because I just can't stand it any more. I don't know if this helps, but I just wnat to let you know that I understand that feeling of being full of rage and feeling out of control. |

Zen888,
It might be helpful to consult with your doctor. If you are currently taking meds then perhaps it is time to re-evaluate with your doctor. There are Anger Management classes and books that you can access online. I hope that things will get more manageable for you at home with the parking stall situation and with your neighbors. I will keep my fingers crossed for you. Best Wishes, Phoenix47 |

I've had anger problems.
Having lower levels of Gaba makes anger issues worse. Some meds work to try to balance out Gaba levels. I prefer to take natural supplements instead of meds, I find meds side effects are much stronger. Im very med sensitive, taking the min dosage of many drugs is too strong. for Seroquel I break the lowest dosage pills in quarters. You can't take Gaba supplements by themselves as it doesn't cross the blood barrier, taking with Vitamin B helps with that conversion. I tried taking True Calm, it contains a bunch of stuff that increases Gaba levels and it made a huge difference. Since Gaba is an inhibitor having more leads to relaxation, can cause sedation. For my taking 1/2 capusle at night was optimal, more than that and I get fairly sedated during the next day. Doing just biological changes helped but didn't do the trick on its own. Like others have suggested do research, searching online for articles is always a good start. The Anger Trap: Free Yourself from the Frustrations that Sabotage Your Life It talked about a couple things that you specifically mentioned: You get upset when something happens that you feel shouldn't. In the cases you mentioned they aren't supposed to happen. I said "supposed to" because there some cases, involing other people where your expectations might not be totally correct. In this case they are, but in some involving other people its good to try to think from that persons point of view and just ask before rushing to judgement. Lots of conflict is caused by poor communication, you can say something that the other person misinterprets. Back to this particular issue. People with anger problems feel that things have to go the correct way and if it doesn't its completely unacceptable. When something doesn't go as it is supposed to people think if we don't get upset and raze a fuss that were condoning it and saying its okay. You shouldn't bottle it up, just acknowledge it and let others know your frustrations is just as effective. I find that when Im angry exersising, particularly weight lifting really helps. I just put all my frustration into pounding the weights, unlike throwing things which I used to do it helps more and doesn't leave damage after that I feel really guilty about. Excersising helps the body physiologically to reduce stress. BNLsMOM made a very good point. Angry people might not be particularly bothered by a specific thing, but they have built up anger that they need to unleasesh. If thats the case than if current triggers are fixed you'd just find other excuses to lash out. This often happens from work, you can't lash out at terrible customers or a jerkish boss. Or other major life stressors. Anger is caused by stress. You don't have to respond to it by being angry, there other ways to relief and deal with it. |
