I recently started visiting a psychiatrist. He has diagnosed me as having Bipolar 1 disorder.
Per his recommendation, I started taking Lamictal a few days ago. Because of the danger of allergic reaction, I am on a gradually increase dosage. Currently I take 25mg once a day and by the end of five weeks I will reach my full 100mg once a day dosage. So far there are no changes. I am curious to know if anyone has experience with Lamictal. How did it work for you? What side effects have you experienced? Has anyone had experience with long term use? Any side effects from long term use? Also, has anyone taken Lamictal in combination with other drugs? How has that worked? Thanks a bunch |

I took Lamictal about three years ago, tried it as a substitute for Depakote. It did work well for me but about 8 months into treatment, I did get that terrible purple rash that leads to the dangerous stuff so had to quit and go back to Depakote. I think I was on a max of 150mg. No noticeable side effects until the reaction. Note that the reaction can some anytime, not just at the beginning.

I've been on Lamictal for over a year now. Taking 200mg twice a day. The only side effect i had was weight gain. That has been the only med that i noticed a difference in me. A good difference. Still taking it along with Invega. Invega prescribed early summer. And klonopin for about two years.
I hope this helps you |

I take Lamictal with Abilify for almost two years now. I don't think the Lamictal is giving me side-effects, I get more side-effects from the Abilify.
Once I thought I had the Lamictal rash, turned out to be Lyme Disease... I don't know which one is worse... |

Been on Lamictal since May of last year! AMAZING! I am bipolar 2 (rapid cycling..mixed features blah blah) I currently take 200 mg twice a day and take Risperdal along with it for my anxiety stuff. I love Lamictal. First drug with no weight gain. LOVE IT! Has totally saved me..no joke!

Thanks for the info everyone. So far it is making it hard for me to fall asleep at night and sorta hyped up in the day. Maybe it's just me, time will tell.
