I called my P-doc's office and it is like pulling teeth to get in there. I have an appointment Oct. 30 which I can't make it to. The next available is in December. I said that I needed something sooner than Oct. 30 because I have been having some issues that aren't unmanageable yet, but I don't wnat to ignore them. She said she might have a cancellation and I asked if she would call me if she did. She said no, because she didn't wnat to get my voicemail and then have an appointment be taken by the time I call back.
What a bunch of BS! The reason I ended up in the hospital for the second time this summer is because I couldn't get in. I am a current patient. They get paid when I come in. Shouldn't they bend over backwards to get their patients in so that they don't have to go to the hospital? Do they not care? What is worng with the healthcare system around here? !! I am so angry!!! I am not yet at the point where I have to go to the hospital, and I am being responsible enough to call my p-doc when I think I need help! End of rant. Feel free to join in. |

He does, it's just that I can't make it to my next appointment and wanted to reschedule.
My rant is now moot because the receptionist took pity on me and called me back with a cancellation. ![]() |

Glad you got in!! I know for my pdoc, it's not usually a problem to get in. However, he schedules 2 patients evey 10 minutes for 6 or more hours per day 7 days a week. He doesn't listen to what you're in there for at all. He basically has a preset idea of what he's going to do regardless of what you say. I have a family doctor on the other hand that is really hard to get in to see for anything. You end up seeing the NP there if you're sick or whatever. However if I have a medical issue to discuss with the doc, she takes a ton of time in the room and listens to what I have to say and we come up with a plan together. I don't know your pdoc obviously but there could be a few things. Perhaps he actually listens to patients and therefore schedules more time for them. Perhaps you just live in what's considered a "medically underserved area" meaning there aren't enough healthcare providers to go around. Maybe both are true. Regardless, I hear what you're saying about being so frustrated to have to stress about being able to get an appointment if you need one. Maybe this is something you can discuss with him in the future at some point. Maybe the receptionist was just being difficult. I'm glad it worked out for you this time. Going to the hospital sucks. Take care.

P-doc says, "I think you are doing fine. Come back in two months."
So paranoia and fear of half-human half mythical beings with horns outside the shower are fine. OK. |

your pdoc apparently comes from the same school of thought as mine. Mine thinks it's fine to only sleep 2 hours per night broken up an have really morbid thinking. Pdocs suck!!!!

u should find a better pdoc. My pdoc does therapy with me and prescribes meds, i get a 45 minute appointment every two weeks. Then next year it will be every week. I'm really happy with her.

There are so few around here that accept my insurance.
Fortunately my T-doc is very supportive and I see him twice each week, and he welcomes phone calls and emails between appointments. I guess my p-doc is just there for meds and I will have to work out my other stuff with T-doc and hope I don't end up in the hospital again and again. I am far from needing the hospital now, so I guess that's what he means by doing fine. It's just so frustrating. |

Most often, pdocs just take care of your medications while psychologist/counselors take care of therapy. If you are lucky, your pdoc and therapist stay in contact. Mine does. I feel so great to have a wonderful pdoc and psychologist. They both listen and remember what I have said it the past. I expect that from my psychologist but it is amazing what my pdoc recalls. I see my psychologist every other week for an hour and my pdoc for 10-15 minutes every month or so. However, if I need more time, she is there for me. I recall one time when I was suicidal and she worked with me for more than an hour and also had a nurse stay with me when she couldn't be in the room. All the comments about pdocs makes really appreciate her even more.
